here is a present for all the Coasties that came and stayed, or came and went through CG station Cape May.

and if any other service gives you guff, just tell them the truth. the USCG had more MOH in Vietnam than all branches combined.

BTW, i took those from my bridge(i work the toll bridge connecting Cape May to Wildwood), so i've seen the boys in blue pass through my bridge.

The USCG has only had 1 MOH recipient...Douglas Munro, killed in action on Guadalcanal in 1942.

Question: Does the Coast Guard have intelligence officers?

The CG has some officers who choose an intelligence career path; the ones I've met have done a lot of joint interagency work. I would guess that it's not as much secret squirrel black ops material that the other branches handle.

I get more from the newspaper for my pre-mission op plans then "our" intelligence program produces.

But it does exist?
It's not surprising. I got more from the local afghans I bought chicken, watermelon, and crappy soda from then I ever got from my S-2. Just the way it is. Most of the time, the hearts and mind crap works really well.

Slateman, are you considering joining in aspirations of intel? I can tell you your best bet is the IS rating. Our Intel program is not that of DOD.

Yes. The Coast Guard falls under the DoD and operates with the Navy in time of war.

I remember camping out in the (old?) helicopter fields on Cape May station. And standing on the bridge of a cutter...then it was my first time on a ship so large. The rocking back and forth felt weird.

Is anyone going to MLEA in February? I'm going to be there for the abbreviated Boarding Officer school.

What are the requirements to be an officer?

Specifically height and weight requirements

I don't think there is a height requirement, but usually a max weight base on your height

That's what I meant.

Former Marine, seriously thinking about becoming a CG officer.

What are you hoping to do as an officer in the USCG?

No idea, really. I wanted to see if I was eligible first.

Ideally, is like a higher clearance out of it. I've also had a fondness for working in operations centers. But I liked being a.squad leader in a provisional rifle platoon as well.

Eh, DOG sounds like what I was doing in the Marines. Believe me, I have no problem sitting in an air conditioned office, writing emails and doing paperwork.

BTW, how many of those jobs can you get written in to a contract? Do officers even get those? I know Marine officers don't unless its flight or law.
