The Army has a team that will be playing at Cup. They will be playing in 5-man D4. I will try to talk to them and see how they get their backing to play/compete.

While I Cup I met the US Army All-Stars based out of Korea and another person that plays with/for Armed Forces Paintball. Hopefully the connections that they have can point me into the right direction to start a true team that is open to the entire DOD just like the All-Army team. If anyone has the ear of a cool 4 star let him know as well.

The way they get funding is from a local source. The guy that runs camp casey pb. Everything else is MWR, leave, etc. BTW, Korea is the ****. I highly suggest anyone that is capable, take at least 1 tour here

What base should be the official home for Army/military paintball? I would say Ft. Bragg NC.

Ft. Benning, Ga would offer better year round weather IMO.

I would say Camp Pendleton. Being in the heart of PB country in California. Plus a lot of pro teams practice there

Camp Pendleton would be good if there were more Army bases on the west coast. I plan to send a purposal to the major Army Commands hoping that they sign off on this idea even with the budget cuts that the military is going through.

Honestly, before you will get any non-appropriated dollars to support a team you will have to start it and have it operate for a while on the backs of the players like any other team. Once they see the benefit of having you out there (think NASCAR and/or Bass fishing for recruiting) the powers that be in recruiting may or may not come on board. I know a company or two willing to sponsor military teams, they won't pay you to play out of the gate but can help ease the financial burden to allow you to play more often and become better.

Just to add to this , For the last year in a half we have been claiming our self as the FT Polk PB team. One thing we did was we hit up the local post paper to gain some exposure and we hit as many events as we can . And so far we have been running good

I would say Camp Pendleton, seeing that they already have multiple active military teams. Marine Team 1 consisted of Marines, Sailors, and DoD played all NPPL's also multiple local events. Finishing 2nd overall in the NPPL series.

Camp Pendleton for the official spot would be awesome.
It's a really nice facility, lots of great fields and staff. Can't argue with that, and with the heavy PB presence on the West Coast, and how close it is to a major city, you can't go wrong!

To answer your sponsorship questions, no you do not need approval from a service to achieve sponsorships. That is one of the first questions they will ask because of money. Other things will be TAD (time away from a unit) and such. The military will not provide a lot of the funding, so the other funding comes out of the players pockets or owner. The Marine Team is a fully funded team, however Semper Fit (Marine Corps Athletics) only provides some amount of the funding. The other is from sponsorships (Valken, PE, DXG paintball and others). I would try to get a hold of Sean Walker and he can probably show you the ropes on how to get this started.
