Boxers- what am I in for?
I just got a boxer puppy. I have an adult blue healer/border now and funny thing is he runs circles around even the puppy boxer. But I have to admit I have never owned a bozer and I am completely blown away how many people freak out about having a boxer. I never realized how popular they are. Way more than even when my blue healer/border was a puppy. IS that a coincidence or are they really that popular/great of dogs?

I don't have a Boxer, but have met a few. The ones I have met have been very active, fun loving dogs. My experiences with breeds is a little different than most people's, tho- most of the dogs I meet are through obedience training, or trials. I wouldn't say they are exactly popular, at least where I am. I see way more Labs, Lab mixes, Pitbulls and Pit mixes than Boxers in pet homes.
ETA- I hit "Post" before I remembered to say how adorable your pup is. I love the coloring and markings. They are very similar to those of a wonderful male Boxer we had in classes about 10 years ago.

They are puppies until they are sick. Overall good dogs to have.

Your boxer looks almost identical to mine.
I've had one for 5 years now. Great dogs imo. Mine is about as loving as you can get, always has to be near us when we are home. Absolutely great with kids. They are pretty hyper and playful all the time so it's best to learn to calm them down when you want to. It's best to walk them every day or to have a large back yard so they can run around in. Like most puppies they will tear **** up if left alone.
Health wise like most larger dogs they can have hip problems so keep an eye on how your dog runs around and walks to see if any signs of limping happens. They also are bad to have skin problems (lumps mostly) so keep an eye on there skin.
O yea, get him/her a bone to chew on. Mine chewed on a rock outside without me knowing and broke off one of his canines.

From my understanding, if they are left alone, they can be very destructive. They get bored.

Boxers are fantastic dogs. We got our boxer when my first born was 2 and she used to pull on his ears and hold on to his tail for ****s and giggles. He didn tnothing to her even as a pup. He was great with her with my friends he was hyper to no end. They have energy for weeks until they get to be about 5 years. I used to take him to the dog run for two hours and he still would bounce around my house like a ball. I miss him dearly.
Once you have a boxer you will always be a boxer person.

boxers are awesome, we have a german boxer and hes great with kids. my wifes pregnant and hes protective of her especially her tummy, he usually naps with my wife until the baby kicks him to move. expect drool, drool everywhere. besides that everything else is up to you and how you raise/train him.

Boxers are also an especially risky breed to anesthetize.

Any doog that has the crunched in nose(not sure what it is technically called) will have higher risks to being knocked out.As a general rule, it is not a good idea to put any dogs under more that once if it can be avoided.

We just got new neighbors and they have 2 boxers. They like basketballs and will pop them if given the chance. lol. My brother was using them as practice for ball handling.

How many boxers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
None, they'll still chase their toys in the dark.

My buddy had a boxer, she died last year of valley fever. It was so sad.
She was a great dog. You wont regret it.
