I know 03's have a wire detent instead of the ball detents. What are the other differences? I think one is slightly longer than the other.

I'm considering an 03 Viking for a project next year. What milling styles did they come in? I'm sure DC can work their magic.

03 are longer, heavier. 04 have switch relocated. what else am i missing?

03s came in full, no or half mill i think. i dont remember anything but no-mill on 04s

i also remember seeing a diamond milling on a diamond dust viking but am not positive

04's came with an SCM too as well as being drilled for eyes. I think they also came with the Mac instead of Humphrey noid along with the WAS board instead of the nelson.

The '03s are half an inch longer in length. The length is at the back of the gun. They are very slightly heavier.

The early 03s came with an internal lpr, the later with the familiar SCM lprs. The '04s come with the SCM I/II/III.

The '03s were available in Immortal, Highlander, Crusader, half mill, full mill, diamond mill, DC mill, PBX milling, Streamline and JMJ featherlite milling.

04s were available in Immortal, Highlander, DC milling, Streamline, and JMJ featherlite milling (Bonebrake, Dark Matter, Rollout).

Aftermarket milling was also available from Tarantula.

The F4 wire detent is preferred by many. It is generally considered to be gentler on paint. '04s come with two detents on one side of the gun. Quad modifications can be done with add two to the other side of the gun.

The boards that were sent out with 03s were the Nelson, WAS.
04 boards were the WAS and Pandora. There are several other boards that will work in the viking from aftermarket manufacturers that will work in any year model. (Tadao, Predator, etc.)

The '03 switch and power light/eye indicator (non-Tadao boards) is also a preference for many since it is in the back, and recessed, so it is much harder to accidentally turn the gun off and easier to tell if the gun is having eye problems, etc when firing the gun. The tadao boards move the indicator light to the side of the gun.

There were two valves that I'm aware of. The AKA valve and the aftermarket Robtown valve.
It's just personal preference, but I greatly prefer the '03 models. The detent is great and the gun seems to shoot smoother to my senses. The on/on switch is in a much better position.

If I remember correctly though DC can mod the 03' Viking to accept humphrey solenoids.

You can also put quad detents on a 03' Viking I'm pretty sure.

Depending on the when the 03 Viking was made it may have a Humphrey noid. I believe they switched to them for the second half they made that year. My half mill salmon had one stock.

If the serial # is on the rear it was a Humphrey from the factory. The late 03s were done this way.

Also, not many, if any, 02's were milled for eyes, and maybe, at best, half of the 03's. All of the 04's were milled for eyes.

Quite a lot of the pre 04 vikings and excals have eyes by now.

True, but they didn't come from the factory with them. If I am remembering correctly, quite a few 01/02/03 Excals and Vikings used stickers for eye covers for a bit before JMJ started making eye covers.
