Um no
And go to a local board shop, they'll help you get what you need and know what they're talking about

If you gotta deal with a lot of ice, get magnetraction or some similar tech in your board. If you're learning, get something soft and relatively forgiving. Reverse chamber might be a good idea.
Don't skimp on your boots.
Learning is going to hurt. Be ready for it and don't wuss out. Stick with it and eventually your body will learn to snowboard.

I've sworn by Burton for a long time, but other real good brands are Rome and Forum. There are many others, but find a good snowboard shop and talk to them about what your looking to get out of a board and they will point you in the right direction. They usually know what they are talking about.

I'm also wanting to get into snowboarding. Can anyone tell me if skateboarding experience and skills translates into snowboard skills or will it be so completely different that I will be as much of a noob as anyone else.

I skated for 9 years before I ever stepped foot on a snowboard, by the end of my first day boarding I was grinding on rails and landing table top jumps (smaller ones...), skating first really helped me out. If you already have the balance concept down you'll be fine, just watch those edges. Hope this helped man...
