What are a good entry level and variety of smaller fish that aren't high maintenance for a 25 gal tank? Oh and they have to get along, I don't want my fishes eating eachother.

Community fish, I'd say danios, cory cats, platties, mollies, guppies, swordtails, et cetera. The only problem with those last four is that you will likely get an endless supply of babies. Neon and Cardinal tetras look amazing in schools, but they're also extremely fragile.

The only fish I've kept in the semi-aggressive range have been australian rainbows. They're excellent eaters and also hardy as all hell. Be sure to do your research. Here is a great collection of fact sheets for you to look through. Read up on the nitrogen cycle before you get started though.

And I got this for $9 on sale at Petco, everything included. Great price I must say.

EDIT: Didn't see that you just wanted community fish. http://www.petco.com/assets/livefish...aterchart.html To help with choices.

White Cloud Minnows are amazing fish. They are the hardiest little bastards I've ever seen. When/if you decide you want to breed fish, they are super easy to start spawning.

you can keep them if you had them before they made them illegal and i am pretty sure you can keep them if you had 2 and they bred or something. i know in florida it is illegal to be in possession of them but i think that is on a state to state basis.

besides, who the hell is going to come searching for a snakehead in your house anyway? its not exactly a high priority for cops lol. i used to have 2 bullseye's when i was a kid, awesome fish.

just started my new project, a 250 gallon plywood tank. it is costing a lot more then i figured it would but i should be able to get most of the marine grade epoxy for cheap/free. i havent decided what to put in it yet, it is either going to be a fly river turtle set up (in which case i dont know what fish i could put in there w/o them getting maimed) or big characin tank, thinking wolf fish or payara in particular

Federal law states that you cannot be in possession of one at all. If you catch one while fishing, you are required to kill it. Also, having them before the ban doesn't necessarily mean you can still keep it. There was a case of a guy in New York who was in that same situation and if I remember correctly, he still lost his case.

What are the dimensions for the tank? Sounds like an interesting project. Definitely keep us updated with pics during the process!

meh, could have sworn you were grandfathered in if you had them pre-ban. whatever, if i came across some again i would keep them.

i was thinking 8x2x2 which would be about a little less then 250 gallons (about 240). if i decide to put an FRT in there rather then fish i am going to make the foot print larger. i need to make up my mind in the next week, i want to get the tank finished before thanksgiving and i really wanted to start next weekend. im also going to have to build a sump which should be fun. this is all completely new ground for me, but i figure it really would not be cost effective to build anything smaller so here goes nothing lol.

i am kind of considering going 4x4x2, larger footprint and i think it would look nicer w/ 2 sides glass rather then 1 in a corner. would be harder to clean, but i could get rays with that footprint :3

found some small baby fish in my 190, they are maybe 3/8 long, probly from the leulupi (yellow) cichlids, hiding in the rocks, so think there is at least 2 left, maybe more.

one other cichlid may try to get them, and as for the koi always eating who knows.

Cories do well in groups of 6 or more. What kind of cories are they? Also, catfish tend to like to come out at night, so it just depends on the fish itself
