in large ecosystems it can be that way in some parts because of the influx of large quantities of fresh and salt water.. but in a fish tank and in most brackish environments, it's just a middle point of salinity between fresh and salt.

have you cycled it correctly?? i think some smaller cichlids would be sweet in there. you could use it as a grow out for some small clown loaches

we used to have a big tank when i was younger. had so many fish, and we had a couple eels, crabs, and crawdads in there as well. we grew the tank for about 5 years. Then one year on spring break there was a power outage that happened while we were out of town.

It fried the pump and all the fish died except for like three and those were the algae eaters.

Im going to start up another tank again soon.

and thats like the 200th time ive read that peoples power went out and they lost all their fish its such a sad situation.

suggestion for people who worry about loosing power. keep a sponge filter. they are very VERY in expensive and can be run by a powerhead which from what ive read can be conected to batteries. well atleast some of them.

GL!

clown loaches grow to a foot and like to school, not a good idea for a growout unless you have a BIG tank waiting for them. Although they do grow veryyyyy slowly.

Honestly for a 30gallon I would either do some apistos or shellys. Shelldwellers are pretty awesome, tiny tiny fish but they've been known to kill crocodiles in groups. And apistogrammas are some of the greatest looking small fish ive seen.

The smallest "shark" you can keep gets to about 6" and is very active. Mine was in a 55 and used damn near all of that space.

Again, I would recommend shellies. Neolamprologus multifasciatus (sp?) is the smallest cichlid, like to be kept in groups, have a lot of attitude for such a small fish, and have some cool shelldweller behavior, as well as being pretty easy to keep.

hahaha yeah i figured i wouldn't be able to, just want to be able to say that i keep a small school of sharks in my room.

but in real talk, im most likely going to buy like a 10-20 gallon tank and fill it with either cichlids or guppies. just something small and colorful and easy to maintain. anything else will take too much maintenance for my busy self right now.

i feel like a 30 gal grow out tank for like 5 single loaches would be good for a decent while. enough time to get a bigger tank forsure

dont do cichlids if your going with a 10-20gal tank. do what paintnoob said. a school of shellys
