I have a few questions and hoping you guys can help out.

I have been running freshwater tanks for a while now and want to try a saltwater tank. The area I want to put the tank in will only fit a 20 gallon long.

From what I have read online so far, anythih below 50 gallons is very hard for a beginner. Is it worth trying or wait till I have room for a 50g?

I was thinking just 2 clown fish and a couple more small fish, along with live rock( no coral yet)

Thanks

There's nothing wrong with waiting, a bigger tank will give you more stability in water parameters. However, a FOWLR should be doable in a 20 gallon. Approach salt water with an open mind and research as much as you can.

Does ich ever show up as just one or two spots? Or is it always multiple spots?

It can start out as a couple of spots, but then it will spread.

Do you need a filter in a 20 gallon long with live rock and a powerhead? From what I've read, I'm leaning towards no need for a filter

Is a Koralia nano 240 enough for a 20L?

No need for a skimmer in a 20 as long as you are religious about your water changes and testing your params

it is not too difficult to keep a 20 gallon saltwater aquarium. Heck, some people keep 5 gallon ones! It is all about how much time you are willing to put into it. Yes, you will have to be more careful about parameter swings. You will also have to get into the habit of doing water changes weekly. BUT this is not all that different than any other household aquarium. Just know that the parameters will swing easier, and do everything the right way.

Also, you are very limited as to what you can keep. So do your research because an overstocked tank is NO FUN FOR ANYONE haha.

Good luck!

If it helps, I've got two of the 425s in my 29g Biocube along with the ****ty pump they included.

If you are going to keep corals, I would get a skimmer. But if you have a skimmer I also recommend getting a 20g sump.

If you are not going to keep corals, I would strongly recommend a filter. It will supply carbon and some sort of filter to remove debris.

i use some of that blue mesh filter media, then bio balls. only other things i see people use are carbon with the mesh in the tray or those ceramic things in place of bio balls.

For water changes do you guys recommend to have a separate smaller tank of just salt water at the correct levels/temperature?

I have 2 big gray trash cans one with RO/DI water and another that I used to mix the water/salt. I have 2 power heads in there and a heater set to the same temp as the tank, I mix it and let it sit at least overnight.

So my female Clownfish and I have started a new little "game" with each other. She's SUPER aggressive, so when I come up to the tank, she starts swimming around at the top expecting food. When she does this, I give her a little tap on the head and then she will go down a bit and swim up and jump a bit to try and get my finger. We do this a couple of times before I feed them. This has actually helped cut down her aggression towards the male (At least when I watch them) a bit.
