Talking First car advice!!

Hey gear heads, you guys seem to know a lot about cars (duh). I am about to turn 16 and my parents have told me they are going to purchase me a car. As of now i dont know the budget but I'm estimating under 7500 as that's what my sisters car cost and they said mine would be about the same. When it comes to cars im a wanna bee gearhead (just because i dont actually have cars to work on or learn about). Anyways im wondering what might be some good cars to look at!! I have always liked Subaru imprezas and I am leaning towards trying to find one in my budget. But another option i might have is a 2004 Jetta Gli owned by a close friends dad, so since you guys know more than me any other ideas would also be appreciated. (And if it matters i live in an area where we get all 4 seasons and all of the weather associated) Any responses are welcome and appreciated!!

Get a nonturbo low-mile Impreza. You'll appreciate a reliable car far more than you think, and the GLI probably won't be quite as reliable.

Subie fan here. Get an impreza. I've seen some older impreza's go for around 7500 but theyre at around the 1998-2004 range. Still beautiful cars.

Subaru Legacy.
Infiniti G35X (not G37). Yes, it is in your budget.
Nissan Xterra from 2006 and up (with VQ40 engine).

I would stay away from that Jetta, especially as a first car.

Make sure the G35, if you consider one, is pre-05. The revup motors have problems with oil consumption.

Besides the sound (because let's be honest, they sound great) why would anyone really want a VQ35?

The earlier ones are pretty decent motors. They're not plagued with issues and they make decent power for what they were put in and when they were made.

They do sound fantastic, though.

They're not terrible but I don't think they're anything to write home about. It was definitely an impressive engine in 2003 but in 2014 even the VQ37 is sorta meh to me. Needs turbo, supercharger or two more cylinders.

technically the vq37 was good for 2008, but yeah in 2014 a regular mustang v6 is just as good

that being said a car with 280ish hp N/A in a ~3400lb car isn't going to feel slow compared to a lot of other cars out there

My wife had an 05 G35 sedan. It was perfect for her because it was reliable, peppy, not bad on gas, plenty of space, and cheap to insure. Personally, I thought the front seats were very uncomfortable.

try to get a decent car which maintenance istn too high, not trying to be rude or say anything but you are going to turn 16, after some years with the experience you can always sell that car and get a better one, besides you will be helping your parents with the insurance price.
