I never thought the day would come when Derv would say "less tire". Didn't you learn anything from Towery? MORE RUBBER MORE BETTER.

lots of scrubbing up front will get worse with roll correction and quick steer. Towery does not daily his whip.

Question, what is welding the diff? I never quite got what that was. basically just turning it into a solid axle?

It kills your tires. Just find a LSD.

this thing started off great, now you're talking about slamming your car, stretched tires, and a welded diff.

Welded diffs/spools/mini spools/Lincoln lockers are deadly on the street.

Tirewear and potential understeer issues are the only things im really worried about.

Any of you guys who have been to the junkyard know how many old volvos there are out there. Finding a new diff if i want to go back to an open will not be hard..

gonna be interesting to see how well you can DD a car with a welded diff, hope you dont need to park in a tight spot or pull into a driveway....

I used to DD a car with a locker. Other than turning in the rain, it was manageable. Lost a few tires though.

A welded diff is a permanently locked differential. The wheels turn at the same speed ALL the time. A limited slip differential allows for a difference in rotating speeds while allowing the power to be associated to both wheels by "locking" in the case of a viscous LSD and locking in a clutch type in a progressive manner. An open diff will only send power through the path of least resistance due to the way the gears are set up.

The difference between a locking diff and a welded diff is that a locker will lock fully based on the rotational difference between the two wheels, forcing them to rotate at the same speed. The welded diff forces the wheels to spin at the same speed all the time.

Instead of running an assisted power steering rack you take the lines that go to the pump off cut them short and attach them to each other this keeps any remaining fluid in and any dirt/dust out.

Its probably the worst way to do it. The miata guys take the rack apart remove the valves and seals grease the rack and put it back together and seal the holes for the hoses.

Ideally ill get another rack because i like powersteering its just right in my car.

(245s, lots of caster, smaller steering wheel, and eventually quick steer would create an enormous about of resistance and i doubt non assisted steering setup would be accurate/quick.)
