Would love to come to this, but is is really close to when SPE is and I like that event alot. I will try to make a fall castle siege if there is one. Especially if there is a pump only castle siege. Was totally awesome last year, or was it the year before......

Alright this year we are changing the game format up alittle bit. There are 8 Hell gates in the city these are the only ways to get to the castle. Each Hellgate will be locked at the beginning of the game . The attacking team will have to find the 8 keys to unlock each gate. Each gate will have a specific Key and that key alone will unlock that gate. There will be clues as to where these keys are hidden some will be in the outer city and some will be in the inner city. There will also be false keys hidden as well. The attacking team will start with one key but they have to figure out which gate it goes to and unlock it before they can enter the inner city and castle. Some of the fake keys will unlock treasure chest through out the field that may have helpful siege equipment or treasures.

Will the defenders know which gate is open to start for the game?

They will have to find which gate the key they have opens . The key they have will be determined by a dice roll to see which of the 8 gates it opens. My years of playing D and D will show here because I have plenty of 8 sided dice.
So to your question No they will not know what gate. They will have to go to each gate and try it. There will be a chain across each locked gate. When the attackers unlock that gate the ref will take the chain down.

Had a great time at Castle Siege. This was my first time at this event and I will not miss another QCD at it's finest. Joe you should see the bruises on my back, next year I will return the favor. Olddog
