Things to consider before the first practice for UNITED
Because Jon is trying to put together a team in a timely manner that will be able to compete on a regional level, in the next few months. There are a few basic fundamental skills that are very important for a player on this level to grasps and be able to perform proficiently. With there being a few month time line on trying to get the team to compete in its first tournament, Jon will not have time to completely teach someone the very basics of paintball, he will be directing more of his energy going over team concepts, so the players will be responsible for their fundamental skills. The list of basic skills is listed below. Sorry if this sounds nit picky but in the end it is only going to help the team and players.
Basic Fundamental Skills
1. Being able to shoot out of a bunker on either side with the correct hand, this means no cross body shooting out of bunkers. An example of what is not acceptable is shooting out of the left hand side of a bunker with the gun in your right hand.
i. Being able to run and gun on both sides of the field with your marker in the correct hand.
2. Being able to pod with both hands. This means being able to pod out of either side of the bunker with the gun in the correct hand.
ii. Podding with your gun up
3. Gun fighting- a player should have general concept and skill set to be able to gun fight with the opposing team.
iii. know the physics behind what and how snap shooting work.
4.Working equipment - self explanatory
Again, because this team will be pushed to try and compete sooner than later, basic concepts will be lightly brushed upon and then added in with more advanced techniques, so players lacking in these skill traits will have a harder time keeping up with the rest of the players. These are simple skills that can be worked on at home with minimal to no paint required. So start practicing , because reputations build muscle memory, and muscle memory wins game.
I will add on to this list of simple skills, as I think of more.
