Anyone else who has read the books know if they are kind of bleeding into book 2 plot elements early? Specifically, the way I remember it, Rob Stark and The Imp's arcs in the last episode don't happen in A Game of Thrones the book. It's been awhile though, so I could have got that wrong.
What arcs specifically? I can't think of any blending of the first two books. I may not be fully remembering the episode however.

General info: HBO has said their doing 10 episodes a season. Each season will be 1 book. They plan on splitting the 3rd book (longest book) into two seasons. The fifth book's about to release in July with a similar length to that of the 3rd book. Two more books are slated to be released before the author dies (he is a notoriously slow writer). So, if the series does well, expect it to last until 2018 or so. Sounds good to me, lol.

the worst part is there's only like 1 or two episodes left and I'm willing to bet nobody gets theirs' until season 2.

The series draws itself out. The end of each book doesn't tie any loose ends. It's better to think about all 5 books as one book. For example (very minor spoiler),
Spoiler: (Highlight this box to see the hidden message.)
You don't find about who hired the man to kill Bran for a long while. Although, I think that's a plot point many people are wondering about.
Another example, a slightly larger spoiler about Syrio
Spoiler: (Highlight this box to see the hidden message.)
The first four books don't tell you what happens to him. There's speculation that you find out in the fifth book that comes out in July, though.

Luckily I already saw tonight's episode, but Nutworth, you really need to use spoiler tags. God damn, dude.

And I already have 4 of the books, but I'm not going to start them until the HBO series is done and I finish the Dark Tower series (one book left).

I wanna read these goddamn books already, man.

I forced myself through the first book, even though I hated the writing style and about 90% of the useless junk Martin used to stretch his chapters. It's usually nothing but constantly repetitive character introspective and useless facts about what people are wearing or how they smell. I have no plans to read further into his series, especially when the show does such a great job of giving you the plot and managing to make at least some of the characters likable without taking forever to go anywhere.

There's no reason any sane person would go into this thread before having seen the last episode.

god damn. So I'm not gonna know wtf happens for like 5 years. I don't want to read the books because the entire series will be ruined then and its such a well produced show... Although, I could see there only being 4-6 months between seasons because otherwise the characters are going to age WAAAAAAAY to fast. Arya will be like 20 by the time the show ends otherwise.

Two words: audio book.

On the other hand these books breeze by compared to Lord of the Rings. At least in SOI&F you dont have 10 pages of some elven song lyrics.

Reading a Tolkien book other than The Hobbit is a fate worse than death.

Spoiler: (Highlight this box to see the hidden message.)
killing off big role characters

(this is moreso a statement that may kind of possibly hint towards a potential spoiler and doesn't mention anything specific)
