Ain't no thang when you read fast. If you want a quick progression of a story go read the outline or something. The books were great, you just have to actually be able to appreciate the suspense that a book builds and the time it gives you to think about things on your own instead of sitting there mindlessly waiting for it to advance the story somehow.

I read many, many books. It's nothing against my ability as a reader, but my tolerance of endless, mindless nonsense. I would rather read an enjoyable book than trudge through the horribly mundane details and repetitive character introspection that Game of Thrones was overflowing with. And I don't need to read an outline to get the story; I have the tv series for that

verbose is pretty much the perfect word to describe martin's writing.

So what's the problem? Character development is important in these books because he doesn't narrate the action. I can see how people would dislike his style but I really don't think it's nearly as horrendous as you guys make it out to be.

you realize in the last 3 books, which is well over 2000 pages, there's been less advancement in the story compared to the first book alone...

Define advancement. You find out a lot of stuff in books 3-5 that will be very important later on, and plenty of stuff happens. People may not be moving anywhere, but lots of things happen that drastically change the situations that characters are in and will be in.

so you're saying you like the fact that Martin has essentially used the last 1500+ pages as setup?

Considering it didn't take me all that much time to read I really don't mind. The whole plotline potentially changes based on what happens in the last few books.

i really like his writing style but i also could see why people get really annoyed by it. there is tons of filler that does not need to be there but that is why i particularly like it since it is so detailed.

i just watched last weeks episode and i actually liked it. i am kind of curious as to what happened at the end of the jaqen's storyline since if something does not happen then arya's is forever ****ed.

he supposedly had 1300 pages of manuscript done, so it may be sooner than we think. i guess he wanted to split this book up into 2 and the publishers said NEWP so he is going to have to trim some fat. they really could have condensed the 4th and 5th book easily back into one book (it really is one book split into 2). jon's story was important through out but they could have just fast forwarded dany's, which is essentially half of the last book. seriously it is just her going weeeeeh what am i going to do i need to be a queen weeeeeeeeeh.

the 6th book should be pretty ****ing awesome considering the set up at the end of the 5th.

I actually haven't finished the very end of the fifth book. I got to the part that sort of came out of no where and hit like a hammer, and stopped reading out of shock and never got around to finishing.

books have officially been raped. They didn't just deviate from the story, they wrote a new one. Not saying its a bad thing, but definitely different.

I just couldn't figure out how they did all of that on the Iron Throne without castrating themselves.

it was a good episode but the battle was sooooo weak compared to what it could have been. i was under the impression that the battle was going to cover 2 episodes, which it easily could have, but they smashed it down. oh well

Have never read the books so I can't compare the show to them, but this last episode was powerful, I'd say the best of the season so far. Rising action to climax and falling action was spot-on...gotta love when a show can almost simulate what you hope to experience in a movie in just one episode. Excited for next Sunday.
