Positive and Negative Reputation
I think we should use reputation points. Like if you like someones post you can give them +1 reputation, if you don't like it then you can make it a -1. Now I understand people will spam the crap out of people with -1 rep, maybe we could only do positive rep?

What use do you see a feature like that having? BST feedback isn't enough?
I've seen it on a couple of other boards and no one cares about it unless to leave negatives.
The only thing I see growing out of a feature like that is another wannabe elitist forum-subculture like the ASMC.
"ooh, look at me- I got points"
This suggestion gets a no thank you from me

I would have way to many -1 points. I do not like the idea.

I'm a lot more interested in the content of a post rather than a number saying whether or not they won a popularity contest.

A idea that can be more refined.
A gaming forum I ran requested this, and I didn't see much of a point in it. However I did refine their idea.
Each + or - reputation point will always be adding 1, or subtracting 1 -- even for staff.
Each user can only give reputation twice a day to two different users.
Reputation abuse/trading is a warning, and a reputation reset to 0.
Reputation toggling is user controlled. They can turn off their reputation using their UserCP. This means other users will not publicly see their reputation.
On registration, their is a form asking if they want it ON or OFF. Also stating it can be toggled in the future.
Each reputation, and reputation comment can be seen in the UserCP. No user names are listed, however it is linked to their post.
I noticed with this system, general posts improved as users who received negative feedback attempted (and were mostly successful) at making more informative, or contributive posts to the forum.
Those users who did not want it, could simply turn it off and not have to worry about it.
Over all, it's a hit or miss dependant on your community. With guidelines like I specified, it's more controlled and consistent.

I have 100% avoided rep on Xbox live, but that's only because I **** on people on Halo...they don't want to get **** on again. And I couldn't care less if people respected me on the internet.

My feedback on XL is bad too. I talk trash to teammates and other teams even if I am doing worse then they are.

I think this is a pretty good idea, there are some posters who are absolutley terrible and all they do is make garbage threads. Somehow, a few of these people avoid getting banned somehow while quality posters sometimes get banned for relatively minor offenses if they are having a bad day and make an off kilter comment or something. If there was a way to rate posters it could help the mods out in determining which users to actually deserve bans in the same way that the thread rating system helps mods determine which threads are good. It would not be an end all be all solution but it could help to identify posters to watch out for.

Because that totally has a decision on whether or not this is a good idea.

Pretty much, more like people reported me because they didn't like me.
