Anyhow I don't believe you can copy files directly for video. Only audio. The only video it'll store locally is stuff you download via the LIVE service (trailers, shows, etc).
I have all my media just setup via run of the mill Windows 7 media player to stream to my XB360. That takes care of most of it, but also there's obviously Streaming Netflix and you can get Hulu and stuff w/ programs like Play-On.
As for media. I have about a terabyte of video and no issues using the non-Media Center options (Media Center can get boggy). Only thing I suggest is try breaking it into folders to minimize that load. I go A-G, H-Z, TV Shows & Unwatched.
