It's a very good starting marker, I bought each of my sons, a Vibe and SP1.
They are very simple and easy to use and maintain. The only thing I suggest to give you more control of the Vibe, is make sure it has a BlackHeart Board, or you will need to get it. It gives you more control of the marker. Also the TechT L7 bolt system is very very nice for the Vibe and SP1.
You honestly though for $250 - to $300 to upgrade a standard Vibe, you could get into a "Used" PM8 - NXT/SFT Shocker - Older Ego etc - with more headroom.
I hope I didn't muddle the water too much for you. But the Vibe is a decent starting gun, but chances are you wont stay with it for long, you will want something different, and if you can get it for a $100 you may be able to sell it for a $100 as well. If it's used try to make sure the Breech doesn't have any DEEP scratches.
Hope this helps.

You may want to find out if is pre-Select Fire. Although I hear GOG Paintball will flash it for you if not, you will most likely be out shipping... So it may or may not sweeten the deal. Also depends on what type of play you plan on doing.
I think Vibes are great markers for the price and love playing with mine.

Mine is one of the most consistent guns I've ever had, that's with the stock barrel. I like the feel of the marker with the rubber regulator sleeve, I wrap my thumb around the grip frame and it makes for a very comfortable front grip.
For $100, I think you should try it.
I use mine as a sleeper gun. It has a Blackheart board, Techt L7 bolt, NDZ spring detents, Dye Sticky grips and a CP on/off. I'm thinking about getting it

And of course he can find used shockers and older egos and timmys but it wont be 100 for older technology just my 2 cents

The Vibe is a perfectly good gun that is easy to maintain and very reliable and consistent. I say go for it if you want. I love my Vibe and have used it more than any other marker I have ever owned.

Ive never personally owned or shot a vibe but i held one and played with the trigger. It seems like a decent gun for the money. I had a smart parts ion upgraded it and liked it. but most likely in a year you will be looking to get rid of it (or whenever you shoot a higher end gun). i understand that you probly can afford say a Planet eclipse or dye, but i got a used ETEK3 AM for $480 and havent looked back. also check out the proto SLG, Rail, and reflex rail. they are under 500 and will give you nice performance for not too big of a price.
