Half of those have nothing to do with the engine. You're describing a heavily modified vehicle, not a heavily modified engine.

You guys are getting a bit side tracked... the point of that post was that the guy was selling his fair condition 06 common rail with over 100k miles for 28k claiming intake exhaust and EDGE JUICED (idk if I can stress that any more) will get you over 500hp...

Exactly, its not going to happen.

As for whats built and what isn't... it really boils down to a persons opinion. Made so evident by the numerous times this has been discussed.

I finally got Ontario plates for my truck. Had to notch the front bracket a bit to make my firefighter plate fit.

Also, the silencer ring is off and the intake tube gutted, so I'd say it's a built motor.

Damn, that's barely modded, I wonder how much more they can squeeze out of it.

I know it's not a Diesel, but can you guys school me on some ****? I just bought this awhile back and I'm in love with it. I'd like to get into building and working on it, I just have no idea about vehicles besides a damn oil change and the basics.

I lurk a little in ST:A and watch videos and ****, I see people talking about cams, superchargers, and headers. I just don't know anything about that **** and would like too. Can you point me in a good direction or just answer some basic questions? I know a supercharger adds more power to the engine and is like a turbo and puts more air into the engine cylinders giving more power right?

That's a nice truck. I would leave it the way it is. Maybe debadge it and take the step off to make it a little cleaner and possibly an exhaust if you absolutely need to do something. Are you interested in lifting it or anything of that nature?

If you want to learn about cars and trucks, just lurk around an auto forum and google terms you aren't familiar with or hang out with a knowledgeable friend.

edit: heres a forum specific to your truck it may or may not be a good one. Google "dodge ram forum" and theres lots of options.

Not really into lifting, just thought it would be fun to add more power to it (Not saying it doesn't have plenty).

Thanks for the advice and the links If no one minds I'll post and lurk in here since I didn't see just a truck thread.

Here was the old Silverado I had, was a good vehicle I miss it a little.

Just head over to DodgeTalk.com for the truck section over there. Planty of threads that'll help explain the basics mods all the way up to built stroker motors.

Nice truck btw. Heres my gasser...

Guy around here has a 5.9 that lays frame on bags, personally Id never do it. But it is something that interested me a bit when I saw it, out of the norm.

Theres quite a few on the forums actually. Also, not my thing to "lay frame" but they aren't all hiddeous. Some serious money and effort put into some of them.

As for my gasser, once the build is done on my Cummins... it'll get a common rail and be turned into a weekend warrior drag truck.

Nice gasser AGP. lol

What are those single cab gassers going for? Im out in ND now working in the oil fields and i'll be needing a truck to get from here back to MN in the winter with. Not to mention i'd prefer to park my diesel in MN and use something else out here, if it gets trashed or stolen, I wouldn't care so much.

What's that get for mileage?

Speaking of RAM's....

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/05/2...t-stop-air-su/

It looks like RAM has really stepped it up for the RAM 1500 refresh.

8-spd ZF transmission, 305hp Pentastar V6 or 395hp Hemi V8, Air Suspension, Stop/Start, Electric power steering, Active shutters in the grill, reduced the weight by 100lbs, new interior, ect.

No diesel yet, but supposedly a small Cummins will be released later in the year.

It does if you're looking for better fuel economy with a much wider ratio spread.

In first gear, a 3.30 rear in this new truck is like having 4.55's in the old 6-spd truck. It will absolutely pull stumps down low if you need it to.

Up top though, the final OD gear is the same, so on flat ground the 8-spd with 3.30's is turning over much lower RPMs for better fuel economy, whereas 4.55's would be absolutely screaming.

I see nothing wrong with more gears as long as the transmission is designed and programmed well (and ZF is pretty good at that).
