Well I talked to my dad and I think I persuaded him to go pick it up this weekend out of storage. I was like "doesn't it have like 89k miles on it?" and his response was "hahahaha son that cluster went out around 89k miles, I wouldn't be surprised if it had 160k+ on it, but it was still on the same tranny and engine" which is pretty good IMO. He said he used to pull his cats and diggers with that back in the 90's. There isn't a single bit of rust on it from the last time I looked at it and he ended up throwing some caddy seats in there for comfort. It is the 7.1 or 7.3 diesel non turbo'd engine.

After this weekend i'll know more but i'm pretty sure he will give it to me for free if I land either one of these jobs that I just interviewed for. He said it might be time for an engine too. Is there a list of engines/trannys that would fit in that truck? Like for honda's you have the b, d, h,k series engines and they all fit but you need a specific tranny.

It depends on your area. In Indiana I found some damn good 2500 diesels with around 125-150k for 12k. They range from 92-01

Check on the private sales on craigslist for dodge diesels and see what you come up with, same with ebay.

Yep, your just pushing hot air around now.

I don't know what kind of fueling mods you have or what you have planned for the truck but a small set of twins using the stock turbo would make a world of difference.

i mean, besides a new cam plate (i believe it's a #6), the afc moved forward and the star wheel moved forward, there's no other fueling mods.

i thought a lot about a twin setup but i can get a wastegated hx40 kit for like $300 and it has a 60mm (<-- i believe) compressor wheel so it'll lower my egts and i won't have to push the turbo as hard to get the same amount of airflow

Yea they are either a 58mm or a 60mm inducer depending on the blade count.

I 'm not exactly sure if this would be a direct bolt on for your engine but a HE351 from a 3rd gen would be a nice fit as well. It's a little larger but with your added fuel it would lite up pretty well. I removed my HE341 a put on a 351 from an 05. Virtually no lag, EGT's don't go over *1300(with stacked programmers), and it runs a steady 38-40PSI
