And I'm sure there are at least a few other teams out there who are in the same boat.
Remember that a good number of the local events are fueled by those that play in the GVRD with the exception of 1 - 3 IPL teams

5 man is way easier to find enough players for ... players that will join tournaments .... more teams per event makes a successful event. But everyone is going back to woodsball so does it really matter?

7 man will make you a better paintball player. I vote 7 man for BCPPL.

So say I'm playing world cup this year, should I practice 7-man all season?

7-man starts at a stalemate, no flag in the middle no race to pull the flag, just hunker down and shoot as much as you possibly can. 7-man boils down to who has the deepest pockets and can shoot their guns the fastest or not get caught with a cheat-mode. There is more action in 5-man, more moving, more strategy. Promoters love 7-man cuz more paint is shot which makes them make more money, but this also is driving people with less expendable income back into the bush.

5-man is great for the players... its easier to find the amount you need for each event, specially for the northern teams. 7-man is good for the promoters... more players equals more paint and a higher entry fee.

The real problem is getting the players out of the bush and onto the airball fields again. The number of players on div 2 teams are irrelevant, its being able to fill the ranks of paintball teams and keep them filled. How many noob teams over the years have gone to tournaments and just got their ***** handed to them by sandbagging teams wanting an ego boost or easy prizes?

Solve this problem and maybe just maybe paintball as a sport can be saved.

5-man is more affordable, last event I played that was the 5-man format was nationals (Longest, most successful event to my knowledge ... not to mention the funnest) my paint bill at the end was 1.5 cases (divided equally over 5 guys 5X1.5=7.5 cases or 8cases all together) last 7 man my tab was 4 cases, or 28 cases for the entire team. At an average 100$ a case you do the math. We placed fourth at nationals, and barely made the scoreboard at the 7-man. How many teams does nationals attract .... lots. BCPPL .... not so many. Bush players are not going to come out of the bushes to play an ultra-expensive game. Especially one that is stacked against them.

Well first thing i got to say to you mixednutz1 play more and get better so u don't get ur a-- handed to u.second i'm sure 5 man starts as a stalemate as well and if i remember correctly the last two years the team that won div1 doesn't even wear pod packs so ur statement about who has the deepest pockets win is kinda wrong. And one other thing been playing for awhile now and it used to cost as much to goto a tournament shooting my cocker as it does shooting my ego.And having played both 5 and 7man ur only looking at about a hundred to 2 hundred difference.R8 i totally agree with what u have said.Playing 5man last yr we averaged about 12 to 15 case an event.

So how does CDR fit into the 7 man=Deepest Pocket Sort of math

They dont even wear packs half the time.

That being said Airball is not for the masses ,it is for a select people who relize that paintball is a skill set and not some re enactment of black hawk down ,and those sort of people are few and far between in the mass market or rec play, save for say your non butt hurt pump players and the few guys who pick up an Ego and relize they still suck

Here are a few facts for you......(we keep excellent per event and annual records FYI), hopefully they can change your incorrect opinions in the future.

- Per rostered player it costs the same to play 5 man as it does 7man
- Per player paint consumption (extrapolating) is the same (5man vs 7man)
- Beginning in the 2007 BCPPL season average paint consumption per event (using a mean per player per event average) has dropped almost 15% per year (approx 56%)
- Seasonal team attendance averages for Alberta and BC conferences is the same year to year, Nationals of course has the highest team counts every year......because of the logistics it is incredible value for the dollar.
- Some teams shoot a ridiculous amount of paint, and some teams do not.
- 7man is more fun and it can be more forgiving than 5man
- We regularly have D3 and even D4 5man teams shoot more paint than some 7man teams at every event (not including CDR)

Mike

^ Nice... I think d2 should be 7 man solely for the purpose of prepparing the lower division teams for the format/ division bump

Why is that? Is our pricing/prizes out of line from the alternatives?

What exactly are you comparing to? A "practice series"? Or another league that you have played that costs way less and has better prizes and amenities?
