Whats the last game you got completely engulfed in?
I'm looking to buy some new games for Christmas break to play. And I'm wondering what the last game everyone here was completely engulfed in and couldn't put it down. I mean, just spent hours and hours on. Stopped playing it one night and realized it was 6am kind of game.
There's no chance of me buying WoW, so leave it at the door.

I remember Dragon Age having that effect on me. I would look at the clock at 2am and think "I should go to bed soon," and then 430 rolls around and I'm mad at myself. Recently though GT5 is doing this to me, although not quite as late.

Though why no WoW? It's a great choice if you want a game that can suck you in.

I've done the wow thing, and I want a game that I can beat in a weekend or two. Not a continuing money hole that never ends.

They've all been said, but Borderlands, Oblivion, and Dragon Age are pretty much the best single player games to be released in the last 5 years. Borderlands is even more fun co-op though.
You will not beat Oblivion or Dragon Age in a weekend or two though. I'm currently 30 hours into Dragon Age and only 25% done with it. You can run through the single player in Oblivion fairly quickly, but it takes a solid 60+ hours to fully enjoy the game.

To be completely serious
Loose/Loose I'm playing until it finally deletes System32 It's going to be epic when it does.
Loose/Loose
If your looking for something a little less destructive Mass Effect 1&2 , Borderlands, Forza 2&3 , DeadSpace , DarkSector , Any of the Zeldas, Diablo 2 , Starcraft 2 , Any of the Metal Gear Series.

Yeah, i've had several people now mention dragon age. I may check that one out. I dont care if it takes a little longer, I just don't want open ended MMORPG's.

I consistently play WoW, Starcraft 2 and Super Street Fighter 4.
The last single-player game that sucked me in though was Mass Effect 2. It's impossible to put down until you beat it. It's like a really good sci-fi movie that is 30+ hours long. The story is amazing and the gameplay fits it perfectly. All of your choices in the game build up to the final mission which is easily the best climax of any single-player RPG i've played. If you choose to play ME2, DO NOT SPOIL YOURSELF! Stay away from all forum discussions until after your first playthrough.
