what does a regulator do

I was looking at gun upgrades, and I saw several people mention to get regultors. What exactly do they do? And what is the difference between them and an expansion chamber?

regulators regulate the operating pressure ofa gun. A lot of high end electro's have rally low operating pressures, such as 150 and around there. the regulator takes the tanks output and brings it to what the gun needs to operate.

an expansion chamber is used on guns that run co2. it basically gives the co2 more time to expand and warm up a little so that your gun is more consistent and may not freeze up as much.

"A regulator is a devise that regulates the pressure of the air entering a paintball gun it accomplishes this by cutting off the air source when the pressure in the regulators chamber reaches a certain pressure. The chamber has a port that leads to the paintball gun so all the air between the regulator and the paintball gun will be the same pressure unless there is another regulator down stream. This will always hold true since the pressure always seeks equilibrium. The only way the pressure can be different is if the paintball gun fires faster than the pressure proceeds toward equilibrium...."

When you start looking at regs do some comparing. Don't base your purchase on price (although you can get a decent reg at a cheap price) The last thing you want is a reg that can't keep up with your marker

I think a good question to ask is what marker do you have that you are looking to add a regulator too?

Even the cheapest reg can pull 20bps easily.

I think he confused tank reg with gun reg, the tank reg/recharge rate effects bps.

I'm talking recharge rate, different regs recharge quicker than others. In other words, most regs can keep up with a gun shooting 20bps recharging fast enough to keep the paintballs over 250fps.

Yeah but neither the OP or anyone else was referring to the tank reg. The question was about the gun reg and what its purpose is in relation to an expansion chamber. So Chain Hang's post was correct.

The inline reg will affect BPS. It's operation is no different than the tank regulators, it's just (typically) dealing with less pressure.

Simply, part A functions like part B. If part A does this under these circumstances, part B will do the same thing under similar circumstances.

You can't really make the argument that it is the tank regulator that's failing when the air is being regulated twice before getting to the marker.

No one is talking about a tank reg, well, I'm not. Little_PB_Newb was putting words into my mouth.

Your AC actually has 2 regs on it. A HP Reg for the valve and a LP reg for the 3 way and ram. If you make it a pump, the LP reg is removed with the front end of the gun, and replaced by the pump are mechanism. The HP reg SHOULD have no issues keeping up and performing consistently with a pump setup. For a cheap and good upgrade, check out CP regs. You can usually find them used for a fair price
