2010-11 Off Season Movement

Figured I'd keep track of rumors here and people can discuss.

Pro Player Movement
AFTERSHOCK
• Lost Tim Montressor (to Impact), Brad McCurley (retired)

DYNASTY
• Added Dalton Vanderbyll (from Entourage)
• Lost Archie Montemayor and Devin Odell (to X-Factor), Chad George (to Impact), Billy Bernacchia (to NEH)

IMPACT
• Added Tim Montressor (from Aftershock) and Chad George (from Dynasty)
• Lost Tyler Harmon (to Infamous), Johnny Thompson (retired)

X-FACTOR
• Added Archie Montemayor and Devin Odell (from Dynasty)
• Lost Trevor Resar (to Vicious), Mark Johnson (to Texas Storm)

XSV
• Added Ryan Martin (from Entourage)

Pro Team Movement
• Joy Division retires from paintball
• European pro team Oslo Menace retires from pro paintball
• European pro team Budapest Bullets retires from paintball
• Newport Entourage will not be competing in the 2011 pro paintball season
• XSV leaves Alien, shooting Empire AXEs in 2011
• Damage leaves KEE, shooting GI Milsim in 2011
• Aftershock leaves KEE, shooting GI Milsim in 2011
• TKO considering a move to PSP pro
• CEP moves from PSP D1 to Pro
• Naughty Dogs breaking up

Leagues
The PSP is making the following rule changes:
• Lengthen the field 10 feet per side (Total size will now be 120 x 170 feet)
• Eliminate Pit-side coaching and communication
• Field Layouts will not be released prior to the events
• Adjust position of bunkers to better suit a wider variety of players
• Adjust classification system for D1 - Pro, now that the Semi-Pro division is absenst

Other Rumors
• The NPPL Pro teams are planning to boycott the PSP. This would mean teams like Dynasty & Impact would not be playing PSP. Damage is not rumored to be part of the boycott.
• Assault (2010 D3 team) is moving up to D1 and picking up Arsenal Predator and former All A's players.
• From GrindPaintball.com: Sam Monville and Greg Siewers may be moving to Chicago to be closer to Shock.
• From ProPaintball.com: Texas Storm is rebuilding a Division 1 Race-To team.
• From ProPaintball.com: An unnamed group is said to be building a new PSP pro team for the 2011 season. Rumor has it the group is located in the Mid-West and will be pulling pro players from established teams
• From ProPaintball.com: Russian Legion & Chicago Aftershock are looking to compete in the NPPL.
• From GrindPaintball.com: Watch for Billy to end up playing solely with Avalanche in 2011.... with pro teams not being able to afford to fly out of state players in.... then the only local team available to Billy would be the newly formed Hurricane team.

it can mean nothing good for the alleged reformation of that team.

Why skip a potentially successful D2 season and jump straight into the black hole that is D1?

I don't think it's something you guys will fall victim to, because you have a goal to get back to pro, but I feel a lot of teams are going to get stuck in D1 (or already are - Jesters/CEP/CDR) without a stepping stone between D1 and pro (no more semi-pro bracket/teams).

If SP teams come back and the bracket exists then that's fine. But what do you get when you win the D1 season now? You get ranked semi-pro and have no teams to compete against. Bumping up to pro at that point would still be a huge step that those teams likely wouldn't be prepared for.

This is tangential, but what if that does happen (D1 teams bumping to Pro in PSP) and they fill the void left by NPPL teams if this boycott actually happens? Does that "lessen" the stature of the Pro division in PSP?

I'm not going to say who I've heard this from except that it came from multiple disconnected sources and at least two of the sources are decision makers for NPPL pro teams.

The thinking, as it was explained to me, is that the NPPL and PSP are in direct competition, the NPPL pro teams are the owners of that league and therefore, by playing the PSP, they lend credibility (and finances) to their competition.

If that's their logic then why didn't they leave the PSP when they restarted the USPL/NPPL? They knew going into it that they'd be playing in a league that competes with theirs. What changed?

The funny thing is....most/all of those teams are also sponsored by some of the major sponsors of the PSP. I'm guessing that their sponsors are going to want them to play the PSP - I wonder if anyone will lose sponsorship over this decision?

My experience has shown that in many cases the sponsors either don't have the pull to force the teams to do one thing over the other or don't have the desire to force the team to do one thing over the other.

I'm surprised the move has not happened yet, and I'm not surprised it happening now. Has the PSP/NPPL ever tried to convince teams to choose one league over another/demand that a team only play in one league? Has a major split ever been brought up in the past? What do you think PSP's reaction be to this rumor?

On a side what will happen Billy Bernacchia? He's made a lot of big moves this season. Whats up with that, is it do to his sponsorship with PE?

The NXL, which was the original PSP Pro League, was a locked league that did not allow its teams to play in the NPPL. Since that practice was halted, no league has locked its doors, although there have been efforts, some league initiated and some team initiated, to force teams to pick one. The NPPL was debating a different entry fee for teams that played only their league, but it never came to pass.

I won't speculate on the PSP's reaction to the rumor.

As for Billy, I know his hope is to stay with Dynasty.

im surprised they only mention billy's local option being the hurricanes. he also has history with 187, who will be in the same division as the canes, so i don't see why that wouldn't be an option.
