...The wii is still selling very well.

Nintendo just suffered a first quarter loss. They aren't selling any games.

Console sales =/= lasting appeal. I don't know anyone who still plays their Wii. I sold mine three months after I got it. Most everyone that I know who bought one stopped playing the thing less than a year after they got it. There are no good games for the system and the controller is far from practical for almost every genre of game available. Sure, it works for some and they have some clever ideas to implement, but a normal controller offers so much more.

Most people buy a Wii, play it for a day or two, then shelve it. I expect the same for the Kinect and the few people I know that have one already have done just that. The Xbox Kinect UI is severely lacking and the game selection is going to be terrible for at least a year.

so i played a bit of kinect yesterday at best buy and it was kinda cool. kinda hard to play when you have people walking back in forth inbetween you and the kinect device, i kinda want one but it'll take some getting used to.
oh, and if anyone else didn't know, the thing actually moves, like it tilts up and down

The wii is good for things like thanksgiving when the whole family is over and you can get in a few good games of bowling, or some tennis. aside from that its useless.

the wii is great in terms of hackability
probably the only reason we still have ours. most of the games are games that i want to play, but not more than a couple hours tops. even then it isn't used much.

Exactly my point. Kinect and move will both follow the same paths as the Wii. It's cool and all for a couple of days, then it's just dumb and boring because of how limited it actually is.

i think the sixaxis feature in ps3 controllers was a great way to implement motion without losing the whole controller. its just too bad more games didnt use the feature to its full potential.

Best thing for the Kinect would be allowing for console shooters to integrate lean.
You hold down a button and that signals for the game to use the Kinect camera to see how your torso is bent (or your head). The game then responds with an estimation of your lean. It's a variation of Q or E on most traditional WSAD shooters which the 360 would easily be able to integrate using almost no resources.
No Kinect? No lean functionality (or you could use the shoulder buttons).
Having to press a button, though, is very important. Otherwise my guy will randomly lean when I change position. Also, the 360 would have to continually dedicate processing resources to the Kinect camera.

If you do that, we're gonna take away the only excuse that nerdy (an most likely unathletic) LARP players have to go outside... we're going to have an influx of really pale people if this happens.
But if kinect could be used so that it would like the movie 'Gamer' and could be used for a First-person shooter (obviously w/o real people dying), it would be freaking awesome.

I don't see how acting out a move in real life would be more ideal. You can react much more quickly and effectively by pushing a button. It may seem "cool" but your actions are limited to unpercise and generic controls.

No, WoW Kinect wouldn't work because half the hardcore WoW players are too lazy to actually get out of their chair to move around.

When games start becoming "Better with Kinect" I think everyone will realize it's real appeal. Imagine playing games like COD, Starwars, Halo, etc and getting to certain points of the game that you put the controller down get up and have a sword fight, sling some guy to the ground, etc.
I think that's how Kinect will have its lasting appeal.

I can see this being true for the Wii and Kinect, but Move already has first person shooter games like MAG, and Move will be compatible with Socom 3 and Killzone 3, among other games. I think the Move will see alot of use while Kinect won't unless they step their games up.
edit:the Move also has a gun "attachment" for FPS.

I don't see how connect is going to improve gameplay. It seems to amount to the same thing as Wii motion controls, except probably even less precise and responsive because you don't physically have the controllers in your hands. And Wii motion controls are a disaster. If you look at the best Wii games, they hardly use the motion controls at all. Like the Mario Galaxy games, the only motion control is "wiggle controller for spin attack". The developers of Mario felt that the motion controls were so imprecise that they only assigned one move to the entire spectrum of motion that you could do with the Wiimote. And even then, imo the parts of the game that require you to repeatedly lengthen your jumps by using the spin attack mid air are the most frustrating parts of the game because it sometimes just doesn't register that you are wiggling the controller.
And I don't see how Kinect could be any better. If anything, I would think it has to be worse.
