I remember being told that lower degree trucks help make your slides feel better. But like you said, I imagine there must be some personal bias in that statement along with varying results with how different trucks are.

I havent seen any proof that lower degree trucks make your slides feel better. If anything, higher degree trucks are easier to slide. Low degree trucks are nice for higher speeds but that is really their only true advantage.

Cool cool. Then I guess I could see people liking lower degree trucks for freeriding but at higher speeds.

Speaking of which, has anyone heard the saying that you should be able to freeride your downhill setup and vice versa? Do you guys agree? Or do you have a dedicated setup for each discipline?

That really depends on your riding style. I skate with alot of guys that ride one board for everything, and I also skate with a lot of guys with multiple setups.

For straight balls to the wall DH, I see definite advantages to riding asymmetrical setups with split angle trucks. For freeride, there are clear advantages to riding symmetrical trucks if you will be riding switch at all. So its your call as to whether you want to ride a board that can do most things decently, or that can do specific things really well and others not as well. I personally have dedicated DH and freeride boards at the moment, because freeriding my uber directional DH board was holding back my progression.

Heres a shot of me from this weekend, drifting my dh board at an outlaw

Very nice, man!! Did you place?
That's what I'm saying... I believe it'd be nice to have a go-to board where you can do some of both, but I think dedicated setups are better.

Nah haha, It was a super stacked outlaw. James Kelly got 1st, Zak Maytum 2nd, and Keith Henderson 3rd. There were at least like 10 top level pros racing haha

I just trolled my skate club... I told them that I got in contact with Abec 11 and they told me that Mike Fitter was heading into town within the next month.... some people, especially the groms, got pretty excited over this. Successful April fool's day if you ask me.

Awesome!! Be sure to have someone take videos and/or pictures. I have a friend out there that lives relatively close to Maryhill and he might end up checking it out. I'm jealous of all of you... going to awesomely cool events and whatnot...

Edit:

So I think I've come to the conclusion that I'll put aside buying new trucks for a while... I'm happy with my Randals for now... but now I'm in serious need of some wheels. My 78a raceforms are pretty small and chunking a good amount... What wheels have you tried for freeride and would you recommend to me??
Cult classics look like they'd be really nice.

If you are buying wheels retail, raceformulas are the best bang for your buck. Maybe try a different shape or duro. Or you can try divine street slayers, venom tweakers, rad releases, or a number of other good wheels. Never spent much time on cults, but I've heard they can be really icey which is not my style.

I actually just ordered a set of Cult Centrifuges. I'm stoked...slighty less duro than the converters and there centerset. Most people find classic's to be good for anything under 25mph, but the new cerebrum is about 30% more grippy than the classic (cerebrum is the classic, but a wider contact patch and it's centerset). So basically if your going over 25 and you want some classic's go with the cerebrum.

centerset > sideset in my eyes. Even if i have to cough up some more $$$

I also just recently cored my motions! I'll get a picture soon.

Isn't it in June? And I'll be there, not going to race though.
