Intense story to read. People forget that man was never meant to travel at these speeds, that is why you feel that rush. Four wheels, no brakes lol. Crazy to hear that he was wearing a helmet though. Maybe it was an awkward fall?

from what i hear it was a skate rated helmet. anyway on the subject of helmets i just ordered a bern watts white/ black brim. im planning to use it for snowboarding too.
I'd be willing to bet he was using a soft foam helmet, which unfortunately does not provide the same level of protection as a hard foam helmet. Either that or it had an improper fit/was not buckled correctly. Its a good reminder to always skate within you're limits and to always put safety first, because you never know what could happen.
His death could also have been related to a non-head impact. Maybe he had some injuries in his back and possibly his lungs?? Or maybe a hit to the neck? I'm not trying to be cynical... It really is sad to hear that this happened..... I guess what I'm trying to say is that it could have been a freak accident and the likelihood of that happening again to another person is not that large.
I'm changing my Darby back to a 28'' wb. With my stance I just felt too "squished" at 26. I felt ok stability wise, but was uncomfortable enough with my stance shrinked a hair that I felt like I had less cornering ability. Guess thats what happens when you're just unflexable...

i see a lot of kids who don't buckle their helmets, its like just dont wear one if you don't wanna wear it properly. "skate within your limits" is definitely advice that is not thrown out enough. everyone is always telling you to push your limits and commit. that is great and all but if you commit to something you can't handle you will be dealing with some serious injuries.

i agree, i would like to know how it happened. ive slid out on a turn going at least 25 and i rolled it off without a scratch. i guess we have all had close calls where if something had gone a little differently you would have ended up really hurt, or worse...

I was skating a mountain run this morning with a bunch of buddies and the cops showed up right as we were gearing down and getting ready to leave. We weren't skating anymore so they couldn't do anything to us ticket wise, but as soon as I went to drive away one of the patrol cars pulled me over and wrote me a ticket for having no front license plate. I hate dick cops...
