Thanks man, been trying hard and constantly working on improving. Playing HB this weekend though so skating is gonna be on the back burner for the rest of the week. Any of you guys making it out for HB?

When you guys were learning to slide, did you learn your standies or hands down slides first? Just curious.

First slide i learned was hands down. then colemans and i love them now..they save my life.

Currently dialing my bigger/longer standies now. I seem to have checks down pat. It's so hard for me to do big standies. I keep highsiding most the time. Then i adjust and throw it to hard and fall back. (heelsides) I'm gunna wait to do big toesides.

I'm also horrific at sliding in any way switch. =[

Learn hands down first. Way easier and wayyyyyy more functional.

Mischo is in town right now and I had the chance to skate GMR with him and a few friends yesterday. Good times

That's odd.... I learned/am learning standies first and someone told me that was unusual. I guess I'm just learning stuff backwards.

Learn to shut down first, always. Stand up shut downs going 20, 25, 30+ mph are not easy even for experienced riders. Get those pucks on the ground and learn control and any speed, then you can worry about the fancy stuff

Yep. I was told the same by someone in my club, so that's what I'll be working on for a while. I tried it a few times last weekend but I managed to keep eating asphalt (probably a lack of proper weight distribution).

It just takes commitment. Are you trying to learn heelside or toesides first? For me it was easier to learn toeside predrift pendies first, heelside didnt click til a little bit later. Its important no matter what kind of slide you are doing to remember to dig your feel into the rails of the board and commit, dont just expect it to happen on its own and then get mad/discouraged when it doesnt.

I'm doing heelside colemans. I can't tell exactly what's going wrong, but whenever I for a coleman the the board just ends up flying to the side of the road or I end up losing my balance and slamming my elbow on the ground.

keep at it, but also take someone with you who knows what to look for. Another set of eyes can be 10000X more useful

Agreed! I wish I could just take my eyes out of my sockets (in a very non-gross or damaging way) just so I can see myself do stuff sometimes.

General advice: Get more speed, carve really hard, and commit (but dont just throw your body around). You are basically trying to do a hard carve and then break that edge of traction by taking weight off the wheels and putting it on your puck

had a nice trip on my board yesterday just to get my 13/30 tank filled and had some fun at the shop but all in all this season looks like it will be great

Sweet. I'll try that later this week and see what happens. My skate life is shot to almost zero this week because of school.

haha welcome to my life. I'm hopefully going to skate this Sunday for the first time in maybe a month or more. Last Sunday was supposedly my last day patrolling so I should be back to 7 day weeks instead of 6 for getting things done.
