I would go with 78a or ideally 81a but that's just preference.. also thank you for capitalizing CLASSIC THANE. Unless you can somehow find brand new fishballs, the classic thane has the nicest slide.

flashbacks are sick. Coning doesnt bother met and does affect the ride so who cares. I dont think I would buy them full price since they dont last that long but they are cheap anyways so its whatever.

Why not go above 81a? I thought the harder the better for sliding?

a lot of people feel that the classic thane doesn't feel as good to slide on above 81a. I loved my 81a gumballs, smoothest slide ever for predrifts.

Aaaahhhh I see.

On a sidenote, how many of you (that are attending a university) are in a longboarding club? Just curious.

Knowing how much time it takes to found and run a club (I co-founded BSU's paintball club), I don't see there being many longboard clubs in existence with university backing.

harder is not better for sliding. harder is only better for slipping. IMO, softer wheels are better to slide.

I cored a set of 78a freerides at the new jersey jam yesterday and ended up getting a set of those surf rodz freeride wheels as a prize. Funny how I usually stay under 81a but now have some 83a sideset wheels. gONNA get drifty on the precision wheels lawl

dont longboard but anybody that skates anything knows that harder wheels are better for powerslides/ your longboard sliding... anybody that says anything different knows nothing. soft wheels have a **** ton of grip.

you are wrong. Soft wheels do have more grip, but feel better while sliding. Since you don't longboard (i.e. don't use soft wheels), don't make a generalization you don't know anything about.

It's kind of like comparing a really souped up Honda that's technically faster than a stock corvette, yet which one would you actually enjoy driving more? The corvette for a lot of reasons.

They are harder, so they don't scrub as much speed. Tech sliding with hard wheels =/= freeriding with soft wheels.

For just normal free ride or predrifting, most people prefer softer wheels because they are smoother while sliding. Some awesome stuff is done techsliding with hard wheels, but it's a completely different discipline imo.

Yeah techsliding and soft wheel sliding is a whole different ball game, the main difference is simply this, with soft wheels when you lose traction you scrub off large amounts of speed so you can't hold out slides as long, when you lose traction with hard wheels you scrub off LITTLE to NO speed.

Tell you the truth my buddy travis davenport has officially given up on riding soft wheels when were at slide jams and skating minor roads/paths. He rides his slide a's to the core and only pops on soft wheels when he wants to go above 30mph and stay his line.

Different wheels, different occasions. Don't segregate two things because they are made with different materials, a wheel is a wheel as a skateboard will always be a skateboard. To me there is no longboard or techslide board, they're all skateboards and used for different purposes.. all will lead to you having fun though, so try em all!

Not true at all. Harder wheels do not slide better, they just slide more. Softer wheels will allow for more control and slide much more smoothly.
