It definitely isn't efficient, and I definitely realized there are better methods to get around haha. Regardless, it's still enjoyable to able to carve your way to class. Defy the laws of walking!
I can see why someone would quit paintball (it can get super super super super expensive). Why would you quit longboarding, though??? Same reason?
Yes, longboarding as well gets super expensive haha. For some similar reasons as paintball. But it only really is if you are very serious about the sport.
The bigger companies such as rayne tend to have yearly models, and some people are into having the newer model decks. Even if the only thing that has changed is the graphic. Then with a new deck you have to get new trucks, wheels....etc. That is unless you pull them off your old board. And then a lot of people just want more, so they buy everything haha
Remember how I told you about silverfish? Take a look under the discipline section and go under sliding. There is a thread there about abused wheels. Where people talk about how(and show pictures of) them wearing down wheels to the core in just several runs. But that takes some skill, and soft wheels. At $50 a wheel, and getting a new pair every week. Ya it gets expensive. Bearings wear down too, trucks get beat up....etc
A great DH setup can cost 300+, and if you get a carbon fiber board, oh dear. Plus leathers, legit slide gloves, and a helmet, you are looking at a good amount. One gnarly slip and those leathers are done. If you just DH, and don't fall, the setup should last a while though.

The Demonseed is an awesome board, but as said above, so is any rayne board. The hellcat was deffinately a good board. But you could get an earthwing supermodel for $100, which is an awesome buy.
I've heard of those, I'll have to look at those. How about a sea cow? Any experience with those? Keep in mind I am 6'3" and 15 size feet, so nothings too big for me haha.
Any of you guys ever ride garages? If so, any tips? Also, tips for sliding? I keep trying to get low enough to put my back hand down, but when I lean back I get nervous/uncomfortable/scared and end up popping off the board. I'm not stinkbugging, either.

Depends on the surface of the garage. Some are super slick and some are really chunky. Just have fun with it and watch out for cars. If you aren't comfortable then be good at power sliding so you can stop if a car pulls out.
And with slides, really, it's all about commitment. If you hesitate mid slide and don't throw your legs out to break the contact between wheel and pavement then your wheels will just catch a super sharp edge and pop out from under you like they are now.

My reason was because I had reconstructive surgery and have plates and 20 screws holding my upper jaw together. Any decent fall while speedboarding would be just horrible. I don't risk it anymore.

commit, commit, COMMIT!!!
Once you do that and don't get scared, it'll be a walk in the park.
I would like to happily and proudly announce that I learned how to pump for the first time in my life. Now I know what you guys mean by looking weird while pumping haha. I was "shadow boxing" when pumping a bit, and this woman gave me this, "Wtf? What ya doin?" look. I laughed inside. haha
Its like 50 outside. Holy.****. Anyway, I got my first REAL slide yesterday. It was pretty cool. Now I know what you guys ment by completly commiting to it.
Hey guys. First time in here. I have a friend that wants to get a board. She has about $250 to spend altogether. What are your guys' suggestions for something that she'll be using mainly to cruise through the city? Board, trucks, wheels and bearings. Is custom better than buying a whole board?
Any info will help. I looked through the first couple of pages and I didn't see any links to good places to shop for boards.

Custom build is always better but usually doesn't justify the price if you it's her first board. If you are just getting into it then a complete is perfectly fine.
It would help if she gave you some general aspects of what she wants since there are so many boards that will get the job done for her
I would suggest she gets a Landyachtz pocket knife $165 for the complete:
Or just any ol' sector 9
Of if you want to build:
Trucks - Paris of Randall 180's
Bearings - Bones Red
Bushings - Venoms
Wheels - Soooo many are good but. gravity's,zig-zags, big-zigs, otangs, purptangs, freerides, and monster balls are the most popular.
We've both boarded for a couple of years. Nothing serious. Just some off-time fun every now and then. She does quite well with it and ever since she got a hold of my buddy's custom-built board, she wants one similar. I have no idea what the names for body types are, but she wants something in this shape:
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll rummage through the companies

Not really a name for the shape but that's the ideal/most popular style
Options:
Loaded - Dervish, Tan Tien
Arbor - Axis
Comet - FSM
Original - Apex 37 and 34 (AMAZING)
Sector 9 - Natasha, Super shaka
Landyachtz - A bunch of board with similar design
Gravity - Kalai and Makai
Rayne - Hustler and Hellcat
Legendary Longboards - Griffin, some other one too but I forgot.
I own or have owned all of these and they are all great.
There's also the Earthwing SuperModel, which is supa cheap at only $100. My friend owns one and it's pure sex. They're high in demand though, so good luck finding one. I disagree about Original, though. I've heard they delam quickly and that their customer service is **** for when that does happen.

Never had one delam. And I own 4 of their boards right now. My 34 is beat to **** and still intact. Their CS is hit or miss. They are a tiny company so when it's super busy (most of the time) they have bad CS.
EW had great boards too but not in the shape he was looking for.
