G4 Barrel
hey guys, I just picked up a G4 last week and was doing some research on barrels. I know some people swear by a certain brand or whatever, but my question is...which barrel is best for the G4? I know guys will say the Dye UL is the best or the Freak or whatever (just making examples), but I want to know if anyone with a G4 has good experience with certain barrels and what their take on it. Maybe a little review on several?
My local paintball shop recommended the Dye UL, but just keeping my options open. Thanks in advance!

It's split between the Furious Lotus barrel and the Eigenbarrel. Either or will make you happy.

i used the furious barrel and it worked great. I got an FPS increase with the 689 after switching to it from a deadly winds 689.
lurker also makes quality stuff, i would not hesitate to buy his barrel

im pretty sure all eigen barrels are 14 inch and i think you can get the furious in 14 or 16 but dont take my word on it
14inch is the best imo for everything.. in the snake i liked to use my 12inch UL but i traded that for the furious due to all the good things i heard about it.

The barrel to buy depends on the type of paint your field uses. Get a few paintballs from the field and take them to the shop with you. Test the paintballs on all the barrels you like by rolling them into the barrel. If the paintballs go into the barrel and roll right out then the barrel's bore is too large and you shouldn't bother trying to use it.
If the paintballs will not fit into the barrel, then you will need a larger bore barrel.
Accuracy in terms of how straight a shot will fire depends strictly on the paintballs and the bore of the barrel. As long as the bore and paint match well, and the barrel is clean, you should not have any issues with any barrel you choose.

After you figure out the bore size you should be using, I would suggest checking out this barrel.

It has got a lot of great reviews on these forums, and you cannot beat it for the price brand new. They allow you to choose from many colors and bore sizes. I hear the ported holes are pretty quiet, especially when compared to most stock barrels.

i use a dye ul and a cp for barrels both have shot really nice with the g4. only thing i didnt like bout the barrels was after every game i would have to tighten the barrel (moreso with the cp barrel).
note: i just got the g4 last sunday and i first shot it this weekend so take what you want from me. overall i prefer the dye ul or a cp barrel. never had probs with either of em on any other gun. and not yet with the g4

Don't bother buying a barrel just get a tech t I fit kit. Therefore you will be prepared for any bore size. I love mine and also have one for sale!

The Dye Ultralite barrel is the lightest, most accurate barrel I've ever used.
I have a red tip and 2 black backs (.688 & 685) for my G4, and they work great. The dust red tip matches my red G4 very well, and the dust black backs match the dust black accent pieces on the G4.
I'm not putting down other barrels. But the Ultralite is simply the best barrel I've ever used. Go with the Ultralite barrel.......you won't be disappointed.

hmm maybe I should've asked another question in addition to my barrel question...I'm still learning about almost everything dealing with paintball so while I was researching....I read about bore sizing & yes I know they're the size of the paintballs you're shooting. (please correct me if I'm wrong)..but my question is what bore size(s) are a must have? I see all sorts of barrel kits, inserts etc....but I have no clue what size(s) to decide on...some people swear by the Freak kit, some the Dye UL and some other brands...I know it'll come down to personal preference but some advice would be nice

Most field paint will use a 679 bore and that may even still be too large.
I have every freak insert made and still have not used anything but my 679.

it really depends on the climate you live in on what backs you need. if you live in a more humid climate you will generally need a bigger set and vice versa. a general range from .691-.679 will cover all your needs. i personally live in southern california and use .685-.691 range. it also depends on if you want to underbore or not. if your going to underbore be sure to use a kit that has a longer than 2" back like the sly ones because they don't work so well for underboring.

the issue here is what should a new player buy for his G4.
i really do not think a HIGH PRICED barrel makes sense here.
i would suggest a used barrel set with a 14 inch total length (one front) and
as many backs as you can get provided they are all narrower than your stock barrel (usually 3 or 5 backs).
IMHO the jj Edge is the way to go if you are going to buy new because they are quality barrels that will last forever and are inexpensive and are easy to sell.. make sure you get autococker threaded. the black color goes with everything.

the gun doesnt really matter when picking the barrel. my top few choices in barrels are Lucky15 kit, furious barrel, lurker eigenbarrel, and redz kit. really all depends on you. you can take our opinions but you will have to try them out yourself.
personally, the lucky15 kit is the best kit/barrel on the market (remember this is my opinion, speedballa962 says teh inver nightstick is the best, but i hate that barrel, and feel its aweful.) its all personal preference.
