Not new, but back from the grave...

Im back! Its been a while (2002-2003ish) was the last time I played pb. I played pretty serious and my team won some tourneys ect ect. ANYWAYS since then i've sold all my gear, mainly GZ timmy, cp 2piece and halo B. I feel like i've been out of the game FOREVER and I know nothing of the sport/gear. Back in the days when the timmy, IR3/speed, shocker and E-cockers were the top names and pretty much the Halo B was the only loader. Now im looking to start getting back in competitively(at least locally) and I'm looking for some advice on the new gear. Guess what I'm asking are some opinions on the top loaders and markers, or if the old guys can still hold up if I picked up a used Timmy or shocker(hated my dark IR3, chopped all day), or if there are newer/better options with better boards/eyes/reliability, basically what are the most common tourney makers now adays. Anyways Show me some of the higher end basics, or if you could, point me to a place where I can find some more info, any help would be awesome since I feel so out of place now

heres a link to one of my personal favorite stores:

My personal recommendation for equipment if you literally have none:

Mask: Proto Axis Pro
Hopper: Pinokio or Dye Rotor
Tank: Crossfire SS HPA tank

For loaders, the Halo B is still around. Empire released the magna a few years back and now they have the Prophecy. Dye released the Rotor, which is a fan favorite. Pinokio has their line as well. View loader is still around with the velocity loader.

For markers, Dye releases a new Matrix every year, making small improvements to each one. They also release special edition markers (DMC, NT). Planet Eclipse released the Ego in 2005 and have made one every year. They also have special edition ones and the SL series egos. They also have a spool valve called the Geo that is more limited production. Bob Long is around with all their intimidators and their marq series markers (inline poppits). Angel as the A1, WGP isn't doing much. Smart Parts went out so they don't produce anymore, only what you can get used. Some other companies have come up with new markers such as Dangerous Power and Vanguard.

Other stuff: Masks are the same as before. The tanks are the same also, with some new companies that have come up with adjustable regulators and new designs. Some air companies are Crossfire, Gurrilla Air, Ninja, Pure Energy.

Hopes this helps you get back into things. Welcome back.

im just going to say good luck and keep an eye out for the steal on a maker since cup the prices on a lot of markers have dropped so you can pick up a nice couple year old maker for huge discounts. i would just suggest browse the b/s/t and ask a lot of questions

My last time to play was in 06 and I just got back into it also. Great to see someone else getting back into the game.

Welcome back! It's awesome to see people returning to such a great game. I still own most the guns you mentioned and I still like playing with them. They have all dropped in price quite a bit though so you could probably get that sweet private label version you always wanted now at a steal. I know I've picked up a Shocktech Shocker, Dragon Timmy and a Lasoya recently just because they were such cool guns back in the day that I wanted to own one again now.

Get out to the field. See what people in your area are shooting and talk to them. Most people will let you shoot their gun at the chrono if not for a game to see if you like it.

All the high end guns out today can demand such a premium price because they work really well. Figure out your budget and then work from there. It's paintball, you can spend as much as you want to.

do not buy a guerilla tank. Ive seen so many with problems. if you want a new tank. buy Ninja. They have adjustable regs and are some of the lightest around.

I havn't played since maybe 06 or 07, but recently I've been getting the ol' urge back. Plus, I just found out my sister has some of my old gear (Jerseys, masks, pants, pads, no guns) stashed away.
Hope you find a good setup!

it's a great time to be out in the market for a decent performer, if you're not worried about "peer pressure" lol.. most of the guns from a few years back still perform just as well as the newer models, usually just a couple of ounces heavier..
with $500 or less today you can get a very respectable set up, marker, loader and tank, that will not leave you feeling outgunned in any situation..

Great time to get back.. I just did too. Damn it, I promised myself I wouldn't ever go back to my field, and sure as **** I did about a week ago, one day to ref with some friends.. Got shot once, remembered what it felt like, and am back into it. Good luck but to make this legit.. Some top of the line gun makers are:

Luxe
Ego
Geo
Bob Long (depending on your style)
Vanguard
Dye
Proto (A "watered down" version of dye guns.

Egos are workhorses that don't take alot of fixing, luxes are amazing, geos are just very damn good. BL is still a master. Bob and Vanguard I haven't had the chance of trying.

Masks are basically the same, get a good comfortable thermal one. Same advice that was around 5 years ago.

Tanks: Pure Energy, Crossfire, Ninja, Myth.

nice to hear from everyone with some updates, crazy to hear that smart parts when out of business, since when I played it was literally when they started making the new shockers and they were on fire. Anyways In terms of loaders, a Halo B w/rip should be plenty to keep up with the other loaders, or in terms of bps are any others that keep up just as well or better? And I've been looking at markers, i've been checking out the egos and geo's, any specific issues I should look for in them for maybe the older ones that might be a costly fix?(07-09s most likely). Or any specific years with a bad board/eyes that I should know about? thanks again, really excited to get back in to the sport and have another thing to do after my snowy jibbin season.

nope, pretty much any high-end marker since 2006 has been made really well. of course parts can still wear out and break, but ive never heard of any company making faulty key components like the circuit board.

How about paint these days. Its been a LONG time, but I remember running either Evil, hellfire or blaze for either tourneys or just field days. Hows the selection now adays, im sure its the same in the sense that some is just white box junk, but for regular field days what might you suggest. I know it all depends on the marker and internal pressure, but I'm looking for something pretty consistent without a hellfire like shell from back in the day.
thanks

it all depends on your budget.

50$ a case will get you some solid paint.

like stinger, or bronze.

If you're paying $50 for stinger or bronze, you're doing something wrong.
