Here is the nasty truth about 50 cal
None of you are going to decide it, what you say, what petitions you sign, no argument you make is going to matter. I've been playing for about 9 years now, and have seen people like you come and go. Us older guys have seen it countless other times. People were VERY outspoken against ramping, saying it will never catch on, it's cheating, etc, now look where we are. You can't find a little agglet on the field not sporting PSP mode.
Before that we had speedball, people hated speedball, telling them it was a fad and would die out.
Time and time you have the kids at the time who think they know it all trying to tell companies what they will or won't do. Companies know that within a year most of you will be gone and in will come a whole new set of impressionable young minds and bulging wallets.

Guys ... we are overlooking the psychological aspect here .... the manufacturers are offering their predominantly MALE customers a product that is inferior .... sizewise.

You are right, my penis simply will not accept anything smaller than 68 caliber.

honestly they have been talking about .50 cal for 5+years, but it finally got to the point of completion and now that they have markers/ hopper for the product and they have major companies like Planet eclipse backing them up with the .50 conversion kit. It will only be a matter of time before this is in many tournaments. I know millenium allowed .50 cal in 2010 and psp is in discussion with gi milsim about .50 for 2011 season.

How naive. Planet Eclipse only supports Planet Eclipse, and the teams they sponsor to win. They are only hedging on the idea that 50 caliber might take off. Venture nothing, gain nothing. Venture a little gain a lot.
Why because winning is what it is all about. You are familiar with what hedging is?

there is no reason to start an argument, but do not call people naive that have been playing the sport for 11+ years. they have been trying long and hard at .50 cal, but no one company took it under its wings. Now that GI milsim started with a focus primarily on .50 cal. There is a shot for it to actually work, dont get me wrong I will never leave .68 but for the new tournament players and players on a tighter budget. This could be a solid fix in the long run.

But now even GIMilsim is moving toward .68. They, too, may be hedging their bets, but GIM is not "all in" just for .50 at this point.

I would consider using .50 cal at my field we play at.
The benefits outweigh the cons here in canada.
Paint having issues not breaking, Well its cold and up on a mountain where i play, so this could fix the issue by chilling the paint.
Paint cost - a case is $80. If i could pay 80-100$ for a case of 4000 This would save me money.
Size of paint - Shooting people between cracks would help a ton.
- The 285-300FPS limit. a 68 Cal ball at 300 fps is about 13 joules, a 50cal is about 5 joules. It's about half the distance.
Masks are rated for 300FPS. If you take a 50 cal at 1.2 grams at 13 joules, you get about 482 FPS. at 5 joules you get 299FPS.
If paintball regulations change for the FPS rule on .50 cal paint to atleast 450-480, You will have the same impact force as the 68 caliber, fixing the issue with paint not breaking on impact.
Some of you may think 482FPS is outrageous and will never happen, but don't think of how much a .68cal paintball weighs.
1.2 grams(50 cal) 3.2 grams (68cal)
5 joules @ 299.42 FPS 13.385 joules @ 300 FPS
135.2Ft effective range 135.46Ft effective range
Now If you could have the regulations changed at 300FPS to the 482FPS limit at 13 joules(the same kinetic force of a 68cal hitting your mask/body). You will have the same breakage, and an effective range of 218 feet.
But this is all theory that makes me wonder. If you can shoot it faster, it will have the same force as a 68.

No, I keep up on news. I post my name at the end because some forums on which I post have a minimum character count for posts and I just post my screen name by habit everywhere now. I will leave it off this post just for you.

And why was that? Because 50 caliber paintballs are inferior to 68 in every way? Do you not know of the multitude of fills that were tested, and rejected in order to achieve the performance of 68 caliber in the smaller shell?
Did you know Italia was banned from making 68 caliber paintballs? Why do you think he pushed 50 cal so hard? Because he wants to completely get rid of 68 caliber, he has said so himself.

Like what you did in you're original post? For somebody being in the sport for as long as you said you have, I expect more.
Everybody has their opinions, that's fine, but 50 cal is inferior. Scientifically proven.

If were shooting it at 5 joules vs the 13 sure. Shoot a .50cal at 482fps and a 68 at 300 and run tests. Run them both at 13 joules. The joules is what regulates paintball rules.
