I remember reading something like that, but I thought it was just that you could get all your skills and elite skills by 40. I has just assumed that meant you could continue gaining attributes.
Either way, leveling is supposed to be pretty linear in terms of time between levels. I like that. You can get from 1 to 80 however you want (pvp, storyline, events) so I think I'm actually just going to take this game really slow instead of worrying about my level. Easy to say that now though.

Unless they changed it, which is entirely possible.. But they made it clear (and I could go find the GW website and search for it but I'm not in the mood to do that much digging) that after X amount of levels it's purely for show, which is a BIG part of Guild Wars. So that would mean Attributes and health/Energy and stuff. You earn many skills after you reached level 20 in the original. I remember, on my first character, not even getting an elite until I almost beat the game. <3 Barrage. I hope they do it like they did in the original. I really liked that the game was less about grinding and doing **** on your own but entirely about teamwork and just playing through.

I would hope they would devote more time to actually making the game rather then all those pages of info and videos.

The info will be permanent. They will keep that info the entire duration of the game probably. I'd say it's time well spent. It's also not a rushed game. When GW2 was first announced that ETA'd late Summer 2010. Now look where it is...

Thief
http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-gam...essions/thief/
A master of stealth and surprise, the thief is deadly in single combat—particularly when catching enemies off guard. Thieves compensate for their relatively low armor and health by being quick and evasive. They can move through the shadows, vanish into thin air, or steal items from their opponents and use them as weapons. Enemies should watch their backs, or the thief will watch it for them.
While other professions rely on recharge rate for their weapon skills in combat, thieves rely on Initiative. Thieves have ten points of Initiative to use, and they gain back one point every second. Weapon skills cost Initiative points, but they have no recharge time, so thieves can use them back-to-back. This allows the thief to keep their options open at all times or unleash a rapid flurry of powerful attacks.
Thieves make use of a special skill called Steal, which generates a useful environmental weapon in the thieves' hands based on the monster or player that they stole from. For example, when stealing from a moa bird, a thief might get a handful of feathers that they can throw to blind enemies around them.
When using a main hand and off-hand weapon combination, the thief differs from other professions. Their first two skills come from the main hand weapon, while the last two skills come from the off-hand weapon. The final skill, called their Dual Skill, is determined by both weapons. For example, a thief with two daggers will have Leaping Death Blossom as their Dual Skill, but a thief with a dagger and a pistol will have Shadow Shot as their Dual Skill.
Thieves have a number of special skill types:
Stealth—Thieves can disappear into the shadows. This allows them to become invisible to enemy players and to ignore aggro. When in Stealth mode, the thief can still be damaged, which temporarily reveals them. When a thief is hidden, attacking will break the deception.
Shadow Stepping—Thieves can get in and out of battle quickly by using a technique called Shadow Stepping. This skill allows them to disappear from one location and then instantly appear at a different location by traveling through the shadows.
Traps—Thieves use traps to ambush unsuspecting enemies and control areas. For example, Shadow Trap is a trap that puts the thief into Stealth and Shadow Steps them back to the trap's location.
The new assassin. Hope this doesn't end up imba. But the assassin was always one of the more fun classes to play. Nothing like getting a full combo off and hitting with that last for 200ish health.

Pretty excited about this game. Only thing that has me worried is that it might release near the same time as D3. I don't think I could choose which one to play.

As a guy with wayyyyyyy too many hours in D2, (hundreds and hundreds, and that isn't even counting time on JSP) I will be playing GW2. D3 is just making me more and more sad every time they release new info.
On that note, it looks like the new profession has been revealed to news sites already. Rumors are pointing towards the end of THIS WEEK for the official reveal. I guess I'll take over a bit of updating this thread since rampager is banned.

I feel ya. We have very similar game interests. I just finally gave up Diablo 2 after this last ladder season. Gave up Guild wars about 2 years ago, just because the community got so small. Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 have me worried, I have no idea which one I want to play more.
Both seem to be headed in slightly the wrong direction in my opinion, but neither of the developers have ever let me down with their final product.

It was someone else that as doing it at first actually. I just check GW2 webite like once a week and noticed it hadn't been posted yet so I did it. I can keep doing so.
This is Rampager2000, and my account is un banned now I just haven't switched over because it's more fun to troll anonymously.

TLDR;
Beta by end of 2011. Game released in 2012. Nothing new just confirming what people had been speculating.

Just to clarify, this is a CLOSED beta. The open beta and release date will be determined after the closed beta is over and the game is polished up for final release.

Closed beta has been going on for a while now. Or, well, Alpha stages.
I won't be surprised if it gets pushed back again. They keep doing so but, in reality, I like it better that way. We will get a better, more finished product.
