Stabilizer Nightmare!

Alright so I got a used male stabilizer in like new condition off the BST here.
I screwed out the adjustment screw til it was flush with the edge of the body, then I proceded to gas it up. As soon as I did the stab started BLOWING AIR OUT what I believe to be the pressure relief hole, I tried screwing in the adjustment screw but I believe the damage had already been done. I then proceded to dismantle the hellish device. What I found shocked me! The oring on the plunger(aluminum) was not just broken, it was in A BLACK GOOEY MELTED MESS ALL OVER THE STAB's INSIDE! the spring the washer the plunger , they were all coated in this melted rubber mess. HELP please, how do I clean this, what happened, what did I do wrong other than buy an item used, how do I fix this PLEASE AND THANK YOU SO MUCH!

The previous owner has probably used some wrong kind of lubricant that melted the o-rings.. or something?

You should clean it and get a rebuild kit from Palmers ($5+ship). There isn't many seals in the stab and it's pretty easy to work on. There's even a couple of rebuild videos on Youtube.

If you can't just wipe the goo off then try some nailpolish remover(acetone)+q-tips.. that's for metal surfaces only though.

I had the exact same thing happen to me.
just used a rag to wipe everything down
Rebuilt using a YouTube video as a guide at first and the seal kit from PPS.
It took about 20 min, to clean and replace o-rings and re-assemble.
