Guys, let's be reasonable. GPL can not base prizes, nor staff for events, based on teams that "said they were going to show up"

They can only base prizes and staff based on teams that have signed up and paid.

We all want to play for the big prizes and make money at a tourney. The flip side of that is, GPL is a business. They are hosting the event to make money as well.

I have owned fields in the past, and know how expensive it is to staff up for an event. One additional field can easily run you $1,500. You have to pay the extra refs, blow up and take down the field, etc.

$1,500 might not sound like a lot, but if GPL is making $5,000 for an event, that is 30% of the profits. That is huge. Think about if you lost an additional 30% of your take home pay from work, above what the government already takes. Now imagine that the explanation for the extra 30% is "we expected something to happen, but it didn't, so you are beat"

You guys have to look at it from the GPL side of things. It is easy to say, well there are 20 teams, at $250 per team, and 8 cases at $50 per case per team, that is $13,000. WOW huge bank! Now take out expenses, cost of paint, staff, promotions, prizes, insurance, field costs, etc, and you are looking at a number a lot closer to $5,000 or less.

To some people $5K may seem like a lot of money, but when you factor in that this happens 6 times a year, and the amount of work that goes into hosting, promoting and preparing for an event, I am quite sure that the people in charge of these events (Cyndi, etc) would make a lot more money just working a regular job instead of doing the GPL work. They like making the extra money, but it is far from "found" or "free".

I too would like to see 50 teams again. The reality is, that those times may be behind us. I would also like to see EGOs or other high end guns for event wins. In order to make that happen, we need to get more people playing.

Our team has fielded one strong team per event, and through the store, we have promoted the idea of tourney ball. We field one additional team per event, of people with little to no tourney experience, to try and grow the sport and the GPL. If we all encouraged one more local team to come out and get their feet wet and build the sport and the league, we would be well on the way to getting back to where we were.

Start a farm team. Encourage others to play with you. get them out there for an event or two or 6.

GPL can only do so much. We, the players, need to help the sport along. Paintball is expensive all around. With the economy what it is, the sport needs our help in bringing new ballers into tourney play. Lots of people are playing airsoft or woodsball. Bring them over to the tourney scene.

Maybe if prizes were increased based on the amount of teams that play. Lower end guns for x amount and mid range for x amount and so on.

To emphasize my point about contributing to the sport. My team, Eminent Army, has locked up 3 man. We will win overall, no one can catch us. We will be at the last event, however. We are doing this for several reasons, but not the least of which is we want to support the league. Do we plan on winning the last event? Yes. Is it a guarantee? Far from it. but we are coming regardless.

We also have our "farm" team, which has no chance of winning the overall. But they are coming as well. Same reasons.

I would like to see a reseeding system where there are something like 2 divisions, one open and one beginner. The top 2-5 beginner teams get bumped up and the bottom 2-5 open teams get dropped down EVERY EVENT.

$0 - $10 IDs for non-players (staff).

Strong prizes for the upper division. (I understand the business side very well and will discuss this with anyone if you want to PM me.)

The shave ice is a must.

The dxs gold shot even better at event #4 and it was the same price that the silver was at event #5.

An overall trophy would be a nice thing.

I could honestly care less about prizes. I have never played the game to win prizes...I play for fun and hopefully bring home a trophy

I'd love to see the MAPL become more of a feeder league for the PSP by following a race to 4 format with a score board. It would be awesome to try and draw in more psp teams to play d2/d3 so teams with this format so others can get good playing experience without having to travel far for it.

i'm looking forward to next year

A lot of media didn't come out this year because there was no money to be made. Shooting paintball is fun as hell but it's hard to justify traveling several hours and losing your day off for no return. I know there are concerns about cheating, but most of the local photogs have been shooting in the area for years and have been to multiple national level events. It was personally easier for me to get on to the professional field at USPL DC in '09 than it was to try and get a media pass for the MAPL. Just my input on the media situation from a photographer's point of view.

As a player I'm excited for the upcoming season and will be attempting to get a squad of former Drexel players out for one of the x-ball events. Should be a great year.

I'd like to see the MAPL commission one or two official photogs to shoot all the teams and then put everything up in an official album (with non-obtrusive MAPL watermarks of course) as a comp to the players. The per/player cost should be low and it will get a lot of publicity for the league and the teams.

i like the idea of a seeding system.i think the appa is killing the local tourneys and making it hard for the teams that just play local events.there is a need for some type of classification to keep it fair and honest as best as possible,i think the idea of a seeding system is a start.maybe thats's something the appa should adapt for the local events.you need to have new teams coming to the events but you want the old teams coming back too.like any business your door is always open to new customers but you want to keep the old customers coming back.some type of change is evident in order for this to happen.
