I vote Wrx but you could get a forester . Or a nice awd pickup . Honestly asking pbn to choose doesn't make much sense because ur gunna have to drive the car . At best we can give you alternatives you didn't think of like the r32 . Also maybe the lancer ralliart ? That's awd right with engine similiar to the 4b11t I think that's just detuned

My 3 series has the ski bag, but it's only included on cars that have the cold weather package (which is most of them, anyway).
I really don't see a problem in storing skis in an R32. You could always get a roof rack and just use that. It would keep the interior cleaner too. Keep in mind, the R32 is a very similar car to the A3, which he's already considering. The only difference between the A3 and R32 is that the R32 will be sportier, which is the reason he likes the WRX. As I see it, the MkV R32 is the best compromise between the WRX and A3. The only possible downside is he couldn't get a new one, and it seems to me like he wants to buy new.
EDIT: Like for example this. What's wrong with that?

I def prefer to buy new or used with very low miles.
Is it possible to get a new r32?
If so where do i find it. I tried looking on the VW website and didnt see it maybe im looking in the wrong place.
Edit: Also is the r32 awd or have the option for it

Feel free to send me a PM.
But the MkV GTI R32 is no longer in production, it ended when the MkVI GTI starting being produced in 2009 (I believe). The current "Golf R" which is the R32 replacement isn't available here yet, and will probably cost around $35k (not positive though). It shouldn't be hard to find a used MkV R32 with low miles and in good condition. It's basically a AWD GTI (which is what an A3 is) with a 6 speed DSG transmission and a 3.2 liter VR6 engine in it. They're decently quick (6.0 seconds according to R&T) and are a lot of fun to drive. The only real downside IMO is the lack of an available 6 speed manual.
R32 is AWD only. And (someone correct me if I'm wrong) it is a Haldex full time AWD system, as opposed to the on-demand AWD system in the A3

me for 1 would be pissed knowing i could get a hatchback sti for that amount of money used the same year.
and isnt vws and audis quatro / helix system a joke of awd? like its 90% of the power to the front wheels all the time unless they start slipping.
similar to bmws x system but bmw pumps like 75% of the power to the back all the time. because all their cars are rwd if they arnt awd.

VW uses 4 motion and Audi has a variant of Quattro used on the A3 and the TT, which is Haldex AWD. It's primarily FWD and the rear is powered as needed. it saves tire wear and getes better gas mileage.
Most Audi's use Torsen, which splits power ~50/50 all the time.

While I think you're right that the haldex system in audis (excluding the new s4, s5, tt, rs3 and r8) is mostly fwd, the R32 it is fulltime awd, while the a3 is fwd until the wheels slip. However, the mkv r32 is a fantastic drivers car (and this is comin from someone who is a staunch rwd advocate). The gti upon which it's based has always been brilliant despite fwd, and the r32 is just faster with more traction.
Would I rather a b8 a4? Yes. Or a 330xi? Yes. But he wants the hatch, and the r32 is the same car as the a3, only sportier with a slightly scaled down interior (still nicer than the wrx though, IMO). It really is the perfect compromise.
To OP, drive one. Then drive an a3. Then a wrx. Then make up your mind.
