eigenram for gen 4 worth it?
I am thinking about pickin up one for an empire 2. I haven't shot the gun as it stands, but i am all for making it smoother. Will the eienram make a big, noticeable difference?
I had one in my alias i just traded, but again, i never shot it stock so i don't know how much of a difference it made. The alias shot well though, thats for sure.

I vote no.
In my experience it's just too hard to get everything working properly after adding a lighter ram. Mine runs at roughly 55 PSI and a dwell of 6 with the stock ram.

I had a hard time in my alias getting the velocity proper with my eigenam. I think im just gonna stick with stock.

thats odd, both of mine had orange bolts and as soon as i put the eigenrams in them they wouldnt crono over 250fps, put the stock bolt back in and boom not an issue
god i agree with you, ive only had one gun like the eigenram, the other ones got real fussy

Don't get me wrong, I'd gladly throw an eigen ram in a gen2/3, maybe even a gen5 but gen4's get really fussy with different rams and springs. (Borrowed your word of choice FD.)

i contemplated installing an eigen ram, but the best way to get performance is balancing the pressure so the force of the ram is just enough to reliably open the poppet.

Like you i was stoked about getting an eginram for my gen4.. But It was nothing but trouble for me. There was no ballanceing the poppet the velocity would be to low causing me to turn up my hpr then my poppet would stick. Although it did work with the stock ram and the lighter spring. I could not tell a difference except that my popet still sticks open from time to time if I don't keep an eye on the lpr

i had one in my infamous timmy and it was amazing. dwell of 6 or 8 (cant remember) and 35 psi. no joke, full 300 fps shots, consistent, no shoot down or anything.
i say go for it, but make sure you have the lighter spring too.

Since you bumped this it makes me think that most of the problems people have had are individual guns needing different spring tensions - I can probably find a washer or something to shim inside the rocket cap to adjust spring tension. The stock spring is just horrible, it defeats the purpose of the balanced valve. I ordered a makerbot this week, and when I get it in I definitely am going to make a gen4 poppet that fixes the issue - it's a retardedly easy thing to fix, actually (just drill a hole through the poppet to connect the valve to the rocket cap chamber, and the air in the valve will hold the poppet shut. Then, all you need is enough spring tension to balance against the LPR pressing the poppet open at rest (the lurker spring tends to leak above 70psi LPR for this reason.) )
EDIT: I could probably use a gen4 poppet, maybe I'll just buy a gen4. Also, if you purchase the ram and don't like it (within a reasonable timeframe) I'll refund your money.

I can't figure out why I didn't think of this... Hell I've even seen it applied before! This is probably the best solution to the problem

If you need a gen4 for testing, I happen to know a guy who would lend you his for a while.

I gave mine chance after chance and I could never get it to work properly in my empire2. Even after trying all of Lurkers advice I couldn't make it work as intended/advertised.
Gen4s shoot great when properly tuned, but my experience with the eigenram coloured my impression of them to a point where I just didn't trust it to perform anymore; eigenram or not. Tuned it with the stock ram inside of it and sold it soon there after.
It was however a stunning looking marker and shot great with the stock ram installed.

I'll take you up no that if you're serious - I'd only need to have it for a week or less to grab all the relevant poppet dimensions - I wouldn't be planning on changing anything else. I've been meaning to do this for a long time, but it's probably worth it, as the gen4 platform is pretty incredible when it's tuned right.

Lurker, I've been thinking of getting a eigenram for my empire 2 for some time. I wouldnt mind letting you use mine for testing since I really dont play as often as I'd like.
