Step one, buy a strap wrench...

Seriously though, I've had luck in wrapping both side in A LOT of tape (masking tape works well), then just using two pairs of pliers (channel locks work well because of the adjustability) and turn them in opposite directions. Make sure that the tape is thick enough that the teeth from the pliers won't cut through and get into the metal. You might also wrap a thin cloth around each side to.

Hope that helps.

Strap wrench on the body, threads of the top in a vice with 2 soft/medium wood pieces, that's how I take apart without leaving traces mines that really don't want to cooperate.

got a vike recently that had the winder top red locktited top. I use to chunks of an eclipse tech mat to grip top and bottom. Underside is tacky and use a vice or channel locks to clamp down and it works pretty good with no scratches.

this , because the tolerances are so tight if you got a grain or two of sand in the threads, or something else they can be a pain in the *** to get apart.
And jared is 2-2 with regs i just couldnt get apart (one was stuck to the body of a gun i found on craigslist and the other was the same problem you have).

and i tried the torch strap wrenchs and vice grips with the rag over it.

Sorry but, the tolerances on the threads aren't tight, they actually are loose threads. I think the orings do a good job at keeping the parts from unscrewing themselves though. These just seem to stick and glue sometimes over time.

really, all i know is getting them apart is harder then any other regulator I have ever dealt with (well the ones that seem to get stuck). Though mind you they are the most common regs I have ever used (i probably have had 20 different sidewinders come through my hands, where the 2nd most popular reg i have dealt with is probably cp ones only owning 6-7 of them). so naturally i will have more of them get stuck compared to other brands.
