Those have attended this speech, what are your thoughts?

I realize there is another thread in the News-Up section, however, the topic is lost in speculation and heated, off-topic debate. This thread is for those who have attended this private gathering.

Interesting to see what a couple of breaks will do to the inside of a marker, considering the fill is made with 98% water.

If it is as great as they say it is, I can see this thing being pretty impressive.

immune to moisture
re-gel on contact

my only concern is the thin fill not being able to mark targets.

As for the breaking inside your gun, it may be hard to clean up because it should re-gel pretty quickly. Not really worried about it dripping.

Where did you get thin fill from !!!
yes its 98% water but from what i understood from theyre info the fill is a semi solid gel till it impacts then very quickly returns to a gel which should be harder to wipe initially than a std hit, as it would probably fragment/flake

if it breaks in your marker you may be able to just fire the gel out as it shouldnt liquify - due to no imact, unless the shell has broke/gone and the bolt hits the gel core causing it to liquify

interested to see some accuracy tests as the fill wont slosh about affecting the flight

If Paul in the You tube video is correct I can see this paint company taking over.

And no worries about paint breaking in your marker anymore if the ball is perfect every time.

And fields don't have to wait 4-6 weeks anymore for their custom ball to be made.

I am sure the fill is prime if they are going ahead with production.

This is going to change the paintball world forever. Bye, Bye gelatin paint companies.

If I still ran fields for people, I would seriously look into switching to this paint.

To Hyrotec.

I hear that to be the case, I also read on their website that the fill should be thick... I remember back in the 90's when Proball made a ball that after impact, that the fill would basically turn into a toothpaste consistency. Players would take sticks or credit cards to scrape it off. I was sad when they discontinued the " thick fill " formula, but if it was possible back then, I would say that the fill could do many things and have many different properties, I could see the Fills Being a little different for each brand of Hydrotec, but I am not concerned about it being thick, But im my world thicker is better...

Its actually a very cool concept, and will no doubt change the sport. And its nice to know that humidity will have no effect on paint or heat. and Im sure we will no longer have to keep our paint in a cool room flipping it daily to keep it fresh. Im all for Hydrotec. I want to order some asap and to see how it is.

Turns out it won't be cheaper per case like some of the rumors suggested.

That's fine with me.

On their website they list one field as a supplier and that field's website lists their paint at some 60 a case or something so I wonder if they are using it.

Zap maker of the Proball brand was putting Starch in their ball. This made for the toothpaste like fill. They held the patent for this. It is still used by a paint company at the moment.

- This is probably why Hydrotec did not have samples. In case one of the other companies got their hands on it. Every paint company has chemists behind the scenes.

- it looks like that field they list on the site is where the main Hydrotec facility is.

I may be going to Realms of Ruin on October 2nd. This is the field that supposedly has them. I'll report back if i do go, and they indeed have some for sale.

$60/case? Ouch they can keep it. High priced paint is for suckers that fall for advertising.

The fill is probably water mixed with coloring and guar gum. Guar gum is "shear thinning" which would mean that during impact its viscosity (thickness) would drop letting it flow and once the impact energy has disappeared it would return to being a gel.

I wouldn't worry about it flowing down into your marker; it could very well be a jello-like consistency at rest depending on how much guar gum is in the fill.

edit: It's apparently this stuff: http://www.lubrizol.com/Household/Carbopol/EZ-3.html but same idea.

At the correct pH, a couple percent by weight will produce viscosity in the 10's of thousands of centipoise at rest, which is very thick (milk is like 10 cP). When it experiences the brief period of very high shear that occurs when the ball breaks and splatters, it thins way out almost instantly. And as he says in the video, it thickens up almost instantly after it stops experiencing shear.

The shell is poly lactic acid (PLA), in particular Ingeo, grade 2002, which may be proprietary to Hyrdotec since it's not listed on the page. The lactic acid monomer is produced from fermentation of corn products.

As far as I can tell, these guys are totally legit with real VC money behind them. This paint is for real. It looks like they've done a metric ton of hard work to get all the technical hurdles solved and get it ready for market.
- Here is the quote from the news section. They also have the MSDS info link on their site, http://www.hydrotecpaintball.com/pdf/msds.pdf

Or for suckers who fall for marker hype and feel the need to shoot a whole case.
