Not entirely. Early Sabbath is pretty clearly influenced heavily by psychedelic rock. Ozzy's entire vocal style and some of Iommi's earlier phrasing and tones both have large roots in mid 60's blues and psychedelia. Zeppelin as well, if you'd go so far as to claim that as "early metal".

But when I did listen to metal, it was because it was high energetic and ****ing bad ***. Hearing the double bass kicking would make my bones rattle, especially if you saw them at a show. I remember seeing Lamb of God once and it was ****ing EPIC how hard that show was. Now-a-days, I cant listen to it without thinking the bands are all trying WAYYY too hard to be metal. Like with DJs, no one cares what you look like or dress like. Wear a t-shirt and jeans, a button up, whatever. But with metal, BLACK EVERYTHING! BLACK BASS! BLACK DRUMS! BLACK GUITAR! You have the guy that occasionally wears different colors, but other than that, BLACK BLACK BLACK! No more for me.

It was fun while it lasted, but these days I enjoy listening to music that doesn't sound like the vocalist is coughing his lungs out. Except The Devil Wears Prada, I still love that band to this day (even though they're hardcore and not metal by any means).

It's all perspective, yo.
agreed

I could care less, nothing in that logic says I have to like it.

Ugh, you get out of here with that stupid *** logic. It makes you look like a tool.

By the way I like metal because it's raw as ****. Each genre has it's own feeling I get when listening to it; like, listening to a good death metal album I feel like I'm reading something by Lovecraft or watching a Lynch film or something equally as bizarre and distorted.

One must first define what exactly is classified as metal? Personally I dont get "thrash/deathcore/whatever" either, I do however listen to quite a bit of what some would consider "early metal".

If by metal you mean: Iron Maiden, Early Metallica, etc... then Metal is awesome.

There are some New Metal bands that are good too, but not the most popular ones.

If by metal you mean
Quote:
thrash/deathcore/whatever
then you're talking about noise, not music, and noone should listen to it period.

Music is the expression of emotion which makes metal one of the rawest forms of music.

well the metal i listen to has amazing lyrics and instrumentals. so basically everybody in the band is extremely talented. like the song "bone marrow" by Protest the Hero. the lyrics give me goosebumps.

Yeah dude
So ****ing deep.

If a mortal
Stands before us
Strike him down
With sleight of hand
And if heaven rides
Against us
The God himself
Then must be damned

Someone plays modern warfare 2.

Seriously man, that was terrible.

I don't like metal because it sounds bad to me and the culture strikes me as being really really lame
