I feel like I should have more of both of those in my collection. Recently snagged some Beach Boys, H.P. Lovecraft, everything The Doors, and other assorted psychedelia. However, I feel as if I'm missing out on a vast majority of the genre, but out of ignorance and lethargy don't know what all to look for and get into. Suggestions? Mainly looking for older incarnations of the genre (IE: Pet Sounds, Piper at the Gates of Dawn, etc). That slower, simpler, harmonic and trance-like sound.

And outside of Funkadelic and Prince, I don't have much funk. More suggestions on some funky **** to get?

I don't like most funk (the soul-y R&B stuff) but I play the bass, so I love all this funky bass guitar stuff, these guys are some of my favorite players.

Parlaiment's mothership album is pretty good. Most anything related to funk produced by atlantic records is going to be jammin.

Anything by Cream

I love "Presence of the Lord". It's got this really calm mellow vibe throughout the song, but it's got a goofy wah wah solo drenched in this psychedelic tone. They did a BBC Sessions album that is pretty good, much like Hendrix's.

Buddy Henkerson is another bassist of some seriously sticky ****, was the bassist for Sly & The Family Stone.



Oh, there's also Bootsy Collins. I still think this guy has the record for the most rhinestones to ever be used in a single outfit.
