This is how I see it. some people are saying lets work this out. lets see what we can do to reason with deadeye. Lets make this work for paintball. Some of us posted after the price increase post and voiced our concerns maybe with emotions and not with or reasoning. But the fact is this is a forum not deadeyes personal site. so that is what this is for. The response is what burnt me.Instead of coming back and trying to compromise, a business attacked our comments and more or less with out so many words said they did not want our business, or our input. then removed everything that had to do with us off his web site. Now is that good for paintball. The people who commented have been paintball in this area for a long time. we have brought new players in. thought players how to play.and play safe and fair. built fields, organized tournaments, talked with cities to allow places to play. the list goes on and on. THAT'S GOOD FOR PAINTBALL IN THIS AREA. I remember at the end of summer looking on here and most of what I saw was a bunch of you say paintball is dead in Casper, and I'm just going to sell my gear and give up. Well the guys that have been paintball in this area said no lets get it going again. Tim opened a field in Douglas and said no paintball will not die if I have anything to do about it. Ben Took time out of his life and set up his air field. Which is a big pain Believe me I know. Trent said come on Grant lets get back in it and spark some interest. Billy came back from a heart problem and played. Now you want all of them to Pay unfair pricing on a sub par field to make it work for a business man who does not want their business. WOW unreal. WE will always have paintball in this town because of some of previous examples. so next time you talk with one of them guys. instead of telling them how they are being unreal. THANK THEM. because they have done more for paintball then most of us ever will, and way more then deadeye will ever do. No REFS, NO CRONO, NO RULES, That is not safe or good for paintball. PERIOD.

That is very true Dave. Wyoming paintball has always had swings and the core people have always stuck around. This is an opinion forum and that is what we have done, expressed our opinion. I just wish our opinoins would have been heard instead of attacked. We all have alot of experience in this.

I have operated a field/store before. When Grant And I opened Primetime paintball back in 1999 with Shawn Johnson as the money man it was a huge success. We had the smallest field I have ever played on but we made it fun and safe and people didn't care. We decided to run a weekly league on Wednesday nights. We only charged 5 dollars a person for that and they could use whatever paint they wanted. The idea was to draw in new people. We had one team that was really experienced and basicaly won every game. Nobody really ever had a chance against them. That didn't matter to those other teams because they had so much fun for a great value. Most of those guys started out renting and then eventually bought their gear from us becasue we had built a good relationship through those cheap $5 nights. Yeah we didn't make enough those nights to cover utilities and reffing salaries but it didn't matter because then we had their business and we had a chance to make that money back. Shortly after that we started having weekends where we would make $2000 to $4000. Sometimes in business it takes losing a little money to make a little. The more you invest the more you get back. It is not something that happens right away. It can take a year or more before you see a return. But if you do it right it will be a great return, with loyal customers that will have your back in any situation. You know what killed Primetime, The Money man decided to change things up. He started charging more. He was making decent money every weekend and decided he would try to live off of it and quit his job. He became a different type of owner. Very greedy and always thought his employees were trying to screw him over in some way. Grant left because he was sick of Shawn abusing Grant's good nature and never compensating him for it. I was "let go" because Shawn didn't think things were working between us. He was mad because people would tell him they wished Grant and I were working when he was and he hated that. He no longer had knowledgeable staff and people felt mistreated by Shawn the Money Man. They just quit going instead of feeling mistreated resulting in the field shutting down.

Maybe I don't understand what Dead-eyes business model is. I don't think a person can just offer a place to play and nothing else. If you want to open a "Paintball Field" you have to have the essentials before you ever open your doors. You have to have set rules. Not leave it up to the players to decide on them. You will end up with bad rules and someone getting hurt. No rules leads to Chaos. You cannot let the inmates run the assylum. You can ask them for input but it must be the owner who sets the standards. You have to have a Chrono station and someone verifying that people are staying within the field set FPS. You have do do this for the players safety. And it has to be checked more than once. Especially for those that use CO2. You have to have some sort of referee system. This is the best way to be sure that players are following rules and that people don't get over shot or hurt because they don't leave the field quick enough or are afraid to like many little kids. The refs are also there to be able to stop play immediately if a situation becomes dangerous. Like a little kid taking his mask off because it get's foggy while playing. Most problems on a field come from players playing on or wiping. Without refs it is easier to get away with this. These are the types of implements that other fields have and that is what warrants a higher entry fee. Furthermore, any paying customer should expect that kind of protection. I am positive that any legitimate Paintball Insurance requires it as well.

I agree that maybe the original responses were a little hasty and heated with emotion. That happens when something you are passionate about is being messed with. We all posted back and forth for a long time before Robert decided to chime in, and when he finally did it was in a manner that was like, screw it I don't want you guys anyway. Any business person should know to keep their cool no matter how bad the situation and try to work through it. Either explain why you are doing something in a calm way or see if there is a common ground your core customer base could agree upon. It's just bad form.

Everytime I have a customer blow up at me or complain about my pricing I have to suck it up, take it with a grain of salt, and see what I can do about it to make them feel better. If I don't and I decide to fly off the handle and insult them like I want to so many times they just won't come back. It's as simple as that. Customer service drives any industry. If you don't have customers you don't have a business.

Exactly! I don't know how many times I've had customers in my face about something crazy and all I wanted to do was ****ing explode...but I didn't. That's how a business works. You have to be curteous to the customer. I REALLY believe that Roberts response could have been done in a VERY different way. From what I read, I don't really feel like making the trip to Casper anymore. I was REALLY looking forward to playing this coming wednesday...I was even going to drag a friend along with me...that would have been $20 for the field...maybe $30 if the other guy I asked could make it too.
Also every small business that I've ever seen is not successful in the first couple of months or even year/years they start. It is a rocky start for sure...putting a little money here and there to keep the customers coming. It would have got much better...there is no doubt in my mind about that. Kids were posting left and right, people were coming out of the woodworks...hell even Wyobigdawg from Rock Springs was considering making a trip this direction. It had such a great foundation that was slowly building into something great.
I don't get to play in Casper all the time with you guys, but from what I've seen you guys have supported this field fully since day one. Hell some of you guys even came out to help set things up. That's why I cannot support the business owner on this one. You pissed a lot of people off with one heated comment. That was a BIG mistake. These guys are your regulars...REGULARS!!! They come out almost every single week to play on your field and buy your paint. I really hope you can gather enough weekend birthday parties and business outings to make some money off of this field now.
I'm like most of these guys, I have a family and other priorties, so it's not like money is some free-flowing commodity in my house either. I'll just wait out the bad months and we can all start playing in Douglas and Glenrock again as usual.
Also you might want to thank those few guys on here that are willing to stick by you and your business. You'll appreciate how much they'll mean to your business if they can turn every one elses opinions around and get them playing at your field again.

Trust me guys, I know all about having to take **** from customers. I have been in c/s in one form or another since I was 16 years old. I had people tell me things that I would not even imagine saying to someone else when I was a product sourcing specialist up at Boise Cascade. This whole situation just sucks and I wish it never would have happened. We were on a roll, things were looking to be on the up and up, and we even had a sup air field to look forward to. I guess we will just have to see how things pan out but for now I will keep my eye on this forum and just keep stashing away cash for later. Probably better that I do not play this month anyway since it is Christmas time and the boys want big presents this year.

I’m going to say a few things and then I’m done.
1. Dead-Eye’s got a chrono and are they are using it is the best news I’ve heard in a while. Hopefully you’ll chrono everybody as they enter and do random spot checks through-out during breaks.
2. Dead-Eye’s going to post rules- Sounds like more than just a good idea to me. A lot of talk about how rules weren’t posted when we played, yeah that’s true but then we all pretty much knew the rules, I mean we have safely been playing outlaw for how many years?
3. Dead-Eye raised the rates to $20. We responded that $20 for all day seems a little high but we could live with that. $20 for less than half a day on Wednesday night was, and still is, crazy.
4. About Wednesday Night… Yeah you may-have opened Dead-Eye on Wednesday just for us but we also paid to play and we helped support your business by buying your paint instead of saving a few bucks and buying it from Wal-mart like you did. So it’s not like it was a one-sided deal.
5. To everybody out there: These personal jabs back and forth don’t belong in this thread. I know I don’t speak for everybody; but this thread should be about co-coordinating with the paintball community about upcoming games and events at Dead-Eye. We’ve said our peace, you’ve said yours, and it’s time to move on. If you guys need keep beating the dead horse or want to talk **** take it the NFA.
Thanks for reading, Shawn

Well guys after Christmas I want to get back to playing again. I will not be able to make a roadie with the rest of the guys until late Feb or March due to the kids upcoming surgery but I would like to play some in Jan. Anyone up for planning a play date to meet out at Dead Eye say on Jan. 15th? Would like to get as many regulars as I can so we can have a full day of fun with enough people. Maybe Robert will have the sup air set up by then too. Post up people
