Not working at home. On the school computers
Problem is, is that the school is SUPER cheap and we have I3s with 4gb ram.

I've seen (much to my dismay) a bottom-end i3 build with 4GB of RAM run circles around my build at the time (core2quad w/4GB RAM), which ran Pro/E just fine. Large assemblies will suck, but that's the case with Pro/E even with more RAM. I'll bet Inventor is a little better with that.

Oh man, custom cads how I miss you.
Where are all the original designs guys? I haven't been in the scene for the past couple years, but what are the new interesting marker operating systems out there now?
To keep it on topic, Simon awesome shots of the mask molds. Are there issues with flash and wear on all those little shutoffs that produce the vents? I never thought about the mold for masks, but it must be a *****. What material?

Yep, vent holes tend to have the biggest issue with flash and shutting off cleaning. Especially with the lower durometer materials.

Do you just take it for what it is and hand deflash or do you rework/replace the molds often?

Newer versions of Solidworks and Inventor are Memory hogs.. I'm always over 4gb just with a few parts open. (not like it means much i have 32gb in my home workstation) They should at least upgrade the system to 8gb ram is cheap anyways.
Pro/E doesn't need a modern system to run well..

One of our group projects when I was doing a CAD paper during design study was for every person in the class to model several parts of a lego technic digger, then everybody to assemble all the parts together into one massive 200-300 part assembly full of very dynamic mates.
Needless to say none of the desktops could handle that stress and it was next to impossible to work with the full assemblies at like 1 frame per minute. Was a fun project though.
edit: Speaking of lego, these count as paintball CADs I guess?

Really looking into the GEO3, but EGO13 is a possibility at cup. If no EGO13 is released, I'd like to get an open bolt spoolie

Wow this is an awesome thread! I wish it stayed more on the topic of CAD and not so much just about computers, but hey, what ever gets the jobs done right?!
haha anyway just wanted to say awesome designs! just curious to what you designed them in, and also rendered them in. Im guessing it was just Rhino and Vray, and if not that is it just solidworks with the photoworks plug in?
I have designed, or tried to design a couple of guns myself, but the one thing I always end up having issues with is just knowing the proper dimensions! maybe when we get NX8 up and running at work ill take on a PB project to help familiarize myself with the software!
Great thread man!

I think I'm about the only one in here that uses Rhino, everyone else is using solidworks, inventor or other software. Coming from an art background with no real life manufacturing experience thats what you get tho. There is some serious talent in here and if you have any cad questions this is the place to ask them.
