I could have spent a few grand to replace the engine but it wasn't worth it at the time. I ended up getting an '06 Scion xB that has served me well but god I miss the sound of that straight 6.

Yep surfacing is the way to go. With solid lofts/sweeps/etc you are at the mercy of solidworks to design the part for you, as often the result is quite random which is OK I guess, but I like to have much more control over it.

Yea, they're great cars. I built an m30 turbo e30
Spitle, I'm awful at aesthetics too. I am interested in your bunker design though, good luck

If you want to market/manufacture them, I'd be willing to share my idea with a signed NDA.

Im really curious to see this idea- I can't figure out what you have in mind

Plywood would be too fragile, the oil rots them out. Maybe flat plastic sheets that are modular? I hate inflating air bunkers, set up and take down of a field is at least 2-3 hours. Make a system that can be set up really fast. :-)

40-50 seconds a bunker?

So it looks like my AutoCAD fetish is no longer crippling me. AutoCAD 2012 comes with what they are calling Inventor Fusion. Finally brings parametric solid modeling to AutoCAD, as well as the ability to both open and manipulate models from Inventor and Solidworks.
http://usa.autodesk.com/autocad/features/
Check out the Inventor Fusion video that should appear on the page when you click on Inventor Fusion in the "What's New" section.

Yes, I too have an AutoCAD fetish. LOL
2011 actually has Inventor's 3D engine built into it, it just has AutoCAD's interface. It's quite interesting actually.

It's sort of an odd hybrid of the engines from Inventor and 3DS Max. It'll be nice being able to breeze through the files that Ydna has hosted using software I am more familiar with.
Just what I needed, another excuse not to learn Solidworks or Inventor and help out my resume...

It was a long process, but here is the only screenshot I have for the final version Phantom UC kit I designed. There were many before this, but this was the last variation before a run was made.
And the end result:

ASA and grips are from the parts bin, but you get the idea. I know where they can be had if anyone is interested

My solution to a lack of a First Strike magazine for my Trracer. 1" square, will hold 8 FS rounds, planning on nail polish/superglue line to run along the bottom of each trough as/if needed. 10-32 set screw to anchor into a recoil slot.

Every other part of the marker seems cake for me because they are mechanical and I can measure them with a micrometer.
My current problem has been finding a way to make the body contour transition into the eye covers. in a way that is visually pleasing. I have been using lofts and sweep cuts mainly and I'm wondering if another way works better. Perhaps I just need to use more cuts and features to make the design and then smooth it all out with filets.
It does feel a bit rough being limited by the Evil-M blank which is basically an autococker blank. What I have made so far comes out looking like a Pro Master or any other generic stack tube popit marker.
Suggestions?

it might be a little unusual but maybe forget the organic curves think Lamborghini

it still has some curves but their a lot less to deal with than full on organic shapes and could be easily controlled with guide lines.
if you have to go organic though i have found that the best looking shapes seam to have an even flow when you turn on the curvature combs in solidworks try not to invert your curvature too much and smooth "sharp" transitions in the curve and if you can avoid it a major line should have no inversions of the curve.

The best way to make organic shakes is like the wilwood forged calipers or any other brake caliper that was actually designed. Start with a chunk of metal and load it the way it would be loaded (in this case a caliper) in the FEA simulation and then just keep cutting, shaping and smoothing until you get the weight down to a minimum without the part failing. Almost always looks like an organic blob with mounting tabs sprouting out of it.

I think I asked a long time ago. No one seems to have UL frame CADs.
