Veteran's Thread
Recently seperated or been out for 20yrs, doesn't matter. If you have questions/information/experience with GI Bill, Vocational Rehab, VA Home Loans, etc. This is the place.
That being said, does anyone have any experience with Chapter 31 Voc. Rehab?

IDK much about chapter 31 but you need at least a 20% rating to get in the program.
The biggest advice I have for vets going to school is to fill out a FAFSA, the govt will literally throw money at you on top of the MGIB you are already getting.

Get fafsa knocked out early as it can take some time to go through.

the FAFSA is pretty much the way in which the federal government determines how much money you get for college in either grants or loans.
What are some benefits that come with Veterans Status? I am currently in the guard and am having trouble finding out what is good about attaining Veterans Status

I'm not sure what we're all entitled to being that I'm single with no dependents, but so far it's covering all my college so that's pretty tight. The VA home loans are pretty nice too because you don't have to spend a dollar on a down payment.

You need to do some reading my man. Depending on what state you're in, they may cover some or all of your school therefor leaving your GI bill in the closet for a rainy day. I'm not sure how it works in the guard because the time doesn't equate to a full time service member.
When you fill out fafsa you will need your last tax info and **** and they will determine how much you make. I think I qualified for a $5,300 grant for the yr.

Are there any national benefits to Veterans Status? what I have read for the guard in MA its 90 days of title 32 deployment with a few other strings.
Ill talk to the support office next time I go in, I already get free public school through phd, gi bill and gi bill kicker. Maybe Vets Status could be away for me to go to a private university for cheaper for my masters

I am a grad student at a state school, and I get
$1518/month chpt 30 MGIB w/kicker
$5550/ year federal pell grant
I actually pocket all this money, veterans are tuition exempt in my state up to 120 credit hours.

Can't speak too much on college or education benefits, but if anyone is hoping to do a VA home loan don't get you hopes too high on finding a good "fixer upper" to try and benefit from. When getting a VA loan the house has to be in a very good condition or they will not even touch it. Although in this market you might be able to find a nice house cheap, but if the house needs work you can keep on shopping.

Advice for the thread: "how to open a paintball store"
NastyShock3r: hey guy's i live in miami i need help to open a paintball store can anyone help or can tell me what i need to do?
midstatepaintball: That's easy! Just push on the front door of the store if it says "push", or pull on the door if it says "pull".

I tried to use the VA home loan here in CA and was shot down every single time when the seller found out what kind of loan I was using. With the VA loan, the seller is forced to cover several of the costs that are normally picked up by the buyer. Also with the way the market is right now people are not happy with offers that are 100% financing but want some portion as cash/down payment.
Veteran’s preference is also something to look for when searching careers once you are out. For federal, state, and even some companies who do score based recruitment/hiring you can gain extra points towards your application score by being a vet and presenting a copy of your dd-214.

I might do the post 9/11 GI bill but I am waiting for the Voc Rehab that I might get.
I went and *****ed up the ladder in the VA and got to this lady that did all my paperwork in 1 sitting. She actually works for the County I live in as a VA rep. So I didn't have to wait for the 1 other guy that does it in my County.
I applied for 6 things so if I get at least 30% I'll be sitting good.
