This would be an interesting concept. Two chemicals separated by a film in the paintball (basically two cells holding reactive chemicals). When the ball breaks they would mix and then glow or light up; much like breaking a glow stick.

I hate to bring it up, but if this can bring down the cost of paint... there goes a major selling point for .50 cal.

Or maybe .50 call would get even cheaper.

If it's not affected by weather, wouldn't that mean it's not biodegradable?

if they are in fact filled with water i am not sure how this would do for indoor fields, soaking turf and such. also, if you break a ball in the break i feel like it would be too easy to splash into the mechanical parts of your hopper and your marker's eyes.

just because its weather proof doesnt mean it wont oxidize, or be degraded by UV radiation from the sun.

mighty curious....

So they'll be biodegradeable like how FS rounds are "biodegradeable" - in other words, not biodegradeable.

Still, even though the stuff hangs around for decades it doesn't exactly do damage, so as long as people are willing to clean it all up once in a while it's all good. A perfectly round non weather affected paintball would certainly be awesome and do away with the need for different bored barrels.

In the press release they are saying the manufacturing process is "green," so you are still right. They use oil in paintballs right now so i'd assume these new balls don't use oil, aka the environmentally friendly manufacturing process they are claiming.

They haven't used oil in paintballs since the late 1980's.

Paintball News Rules
  1. No Upping threads. If you have something to say, please do, but don't post in the thread just to take it to the top of the forum.
  2. Do not post "1st post", "1st", "First post" or anything similar (or with any other number) at any point in a thread, even if you post a comment too. It is really annoying and it will result in a ban.
  3. If you don't like something, say why instead of just calling it ugly, lame, gay or any other name. If it is old, simply post a link or report the post with a link to the older News thread.
  4. Please don't post links for places to buy items. That encourages stores, sponsored players and other people to do it and spam the site.
If you have questions, please post them in the Talk to Mods/Admins forum.
