Just got a phantom Help
I just got a phantom and had a few questions.
1. Is there any way of preventing wear on the barrel from pumping?
2. How do I shoot straight without a stock...I've almost got it down but I was curious as to which methods you guys use to do this.
3. What are your secrets to preventing roll out?
Thanks guys it would be very much appreciated.
I just scored a blue/black acid washed phantom with 14' matching barrel, stock class, 45 grip and all the goodies for $140 yayy.

i have a vsc phantom with a 13ci tank and i hate stocks. to aim well, i keep a steady hand, line up the back of the phantom with your nose and point at the object. it's hard to describe, but the gun should point directly at where you are aiming every time. for longer shots, i aim down the feed block.

Aiming, with the marker centered~ between your eyes, look at your target, keeping both eyes open and on target, you should see a blur of 2 guns, put your target between the blurred guns and shoot.

you can't really prevent the wear. the best thing is to get an undercocking kit I guess. And screw detent rings. Get some of the following: smaller bored .681 lapco barrel, or either get your stock barrel bored for freak inserts, or get a new barrel that is already bored.
check lapcopaintball.com for the lapco barrel. for freak bored barrels try http://www.odells-paintball.com

wear from the pump is something u cant do much about, unless maybe u get an undercocking kit or something, but you wont really get much wear on the barrel anyway, it should be one of the very least of your worries

just a thought, but maybe shave the inside of your pump handle, about 2mm around, and then put a small layer of tape around the back end of the barrel, where the put handle usually goes.

Its not going to work like you think it will.
The best way to prevent barrel wear is to either replace the pump handle setup with an undercocking kit or to accept the fact that its gonna happen.
I've had pretty damn good luck with detent rings. They are an incredibly cheap fix and the stock pipe is pretty damn good. Most phantom users will tell you that the stock barrel is good enough, and it is.
As far as stocks go, I really like the L stock over the adjustable T stock. The T stock on mine would constantly come undone and move on me, however it could have just been that one. I also like having a bottomline setup with either a 9oz or a 13/3000. Best bet is to line it up like you would a firearm. Everyone is different so what ever works for you works lol.
Also, try to grab a spring kit and maybe a seals kit for it. You will need it eventually.

Look at Doro Paintball and look under stock class parts.
Its all the little pieces and nick nacks that go wrong on a phantom. Cup seal, orings, TPC and some ball retainers. Make sure you get the spring kit. If you play and can't get it to chrono right, more than likely your springs.

I never had much luck with the detent ring set. I had the freak bored stock barrel. It rocked but you'll have to find used inserts since SP is down.

I went with an undercocking kit and it works great, I have a steadier pumping motion so I aim alittle better. I also use a stock helps abunch. I just use the stock barrel bc my local fields paint runs alittle on the big side (.691 or .693 while the stock barrel is around .689)

I've decided that cleaning the pump every time will keep it from wearing down. Where can i get a cheap stock?

Also, does anyone know what those things are called that screw directly into where the reg goes, and has a macroline fitting on the end?

I get out a lot
|
1. Is there any way of preventing wear on the barrel from pumping? you can use an undercocking kit, but keeping it clean will work the best
2. How do I shoot straight without a stock...I've almost got it down but I was curious as to which methods you guys use to do this. ghost ring or some cheap red dot and a lot of practice
3. What are your secrets to preventing roll out? freaked barrel with .679 or .682 inserts detent rings don't work anymore on all paint, only some.

Good deal you got there. Phantoms are going for real cheap.
You can reduce wear by cleaning the barrel and inside of the pump handle after every day of play. Keep it dry to prevent any dust or dirt sticking to it.
Cheapest place to buy a stock would be Amazon.com if you want the L-Stock.
The ASP Phantom Detent Modification is the best way to prevent both rollouts and double feeds: http://www.airsoldier.com/mm5/mercha...de=AIRSMITHING
