Drone 2 Modification Thread

Drone 2 to Drone 5 Modification thread
***First to be said these modification are not sanctioned or endorsed by Macdev. These are purely private projects. Modify the parts at your own risk. Now that that PSA is out of the way letís get to fun partÖ

Parts you will need for grip modification:
- Whole clone 5 fore grip assembly
- Part # X5FGC, C6FGS, C6FG, P2-8, C8-5-16, X5FGCAP
- Allen keys
- Grinder
- Whatever color grips you desire

1. Once you have all the parts the process is pretty easy. You have to shave two parts of the Part X5FGC. Now for Clone 5 fore grip to fit into the drone fore grip space you have to shave the back end of the part X5FGC from an overall length of 1.250in. To a length of 1.181in.
2. The stock width of part X5FGC is about 0.717in. Shave the back width down to 0.694.

3. Now you are done with the cutting, if you would like for appearance you can put some black spray paint on the area you shaved off, but this is not necessary because this area is not seen once the grip is on.
4. Once you put the new grips on go ahead slip the whole grip assembly into the open space on the drone 2, note when putting the grip in put the back end of the grip in first about half way then pull fore grip towards the trigger frame while sliding the front of the grip into the drone body.
5. Once both back and front grips are seeded correctly push the fore grip up to the body tightly and screw the fore grip to the body and you are finished.

If you donít want to do this yourself or you do not have the right equipment you can pm me and we can discuss details.

Drone 2 bolt tip mod
***First to be said these modification are not sanctioned or endorsed by Macdev. These are purely private projects. Modify the parts at your own risk. Now that that PSA is out of the way letís get to fun partÖ

Parts you will need for this:
-soft tip part# C6BTIP
-a machinist with careful hands or a six pack of beer to give to a machinist who will make some shavings to your bolt for you.
-OPTIONAL new stock bolt from Macdev

1. Identify which parts need to be shaved. You will be shaving 3 parts of the bolt. You will be shaving the front lip of bolt down, the diameter of the front lip, and the inner channel between the lip and the main body of the bolt.
2. Take some measurements. The stock measurements should be around:
.678in diameter of the of the lip
.568in diameter of the inner channel
.XXXin depth of the lip

3. Shave the bolt. The measurements you need to shave your stock bolt down to are:
-Shave lip diameter down to .603in
-Shave inner channel down to .531in
-Shave depth of the lip down to .011in measuring from the top of the lip to the inner channel wall.
*MAKE SURE ALL METAL SHAVINGS ARE CLEARED OUT OF YOUR BOLT BOTH INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR*
4. Once shaving is done put Macdev soft tip on your bolt and slide the bolt through the markerís breach there should be no slop but the bolt should be easily slid in n out of the breach. Make adjustments as necessary.

Nice! Just wanted to add though that MacDev has just released the gold bolt for the drone2, if I understand correctly that is what you have made here. Still very cool stuff! Have you thought of doing anything with the backcap? Kinda modify it so that it can be hand tightened?

Thanks for the love guys!

-To get the parts from Macdev you are looking at around $60 for the foregrip and $5 for the bolt tip.

- Yes Macdev has released their gold bolt I have held it and looked at it to see what is different but there is not a big difference from mine to their's. I have not had the time to really look at messing with the back cap but I like where your head is at though! Always room for progress lol

- Yes I ordered the parts from macdev you will have to contact Macdev USA (or your equivelent macdev distributor) via email and tell them which parts you need, include the part # because that just makes life easier on the guys taking the order haha.

-Well first off you save money on buying a gold bolt, i like that result. But performance wise the bolt is going to be easier on brittle paint, since the marker does not have an anti rollback feature this soft tip mod actually is the anti rollback feature now which is nice. The Drone is way more quiet than with the stock bolt. Efficiency has not changed but I am working on some other stuff for the bolt to see if I can make it more efficient. The fore grip mod I like even more than the bolt mod just because it is so much more ergonomic. The positioning of the thumb with the clone 5 fore grip is optimal compared to the drone's stock foregrip.

So that's $60 includes the complete fore grip assembly? Like the back cap part? I'm guessing all you need to do is buy the grip for it? Also does the mod make it more capable for you to wrap your thumb? As in more spacing between the trigger guard and foregrip?

Yes for complete fore grip assembly it should be around $60. You can also choose what color ano on aluminium part you would like. The color grips you obviously must purchase separately.
Yes the thumb area with this mod is much bigger than with the stock grip.

Bolt bumper.
stretch a #10 Buna 50 oring over the valve to act as a rear bumore for the bolt. This also makes the bolt sit just past flush in the breach to eliminate roll back.

I set my board to 15 bps millenium and ripped 4 pods. One shots between 280 - 290 fps pretty consistent at dwell of 11 but down to 245 fps average when ripping 15 bps and +- 45 ! In fps spread. This is with a 011 oring over the back of the valve.

What may causing this big spread only when shooting strings of paint?

I will indeed take the oring off and measure with my virtue chrono again.

The Hpr is ligthly lubed.

I would guess the dwell is too low. It's not fully recharging between shots.

I personally would take the 011 oring ring off because that is short stroking the bolt. But if you want to leave it on I would up your ball settle delay and up the dwell to 12.

What happens if you short stroke the bolt? Any long term detrimental effects to the marker? I have this mod on my Drone 2 atm and would like to know more details.

It would shoot fine for maybe a hopper then stop firing when the dwell was 10, I upped it to 11 and the issue went away. Sound related? Thanks.
