Sl8r and bad efficency
Hey nation, having a big problem with my SL8r.
Since I got it I have had terrible efficency with it.
I am running on a 45/45 (yes I know it is smaller) and am getting maybe a hopper and 2-3 (sometimes 4) pods on a 4000 psi fill. I have the HP valve in and I match the paint to barrel bore too. I relubed and greased everything. Brand new batteries, LPR-Dwell-Board all at factory settings. My question is; shouldn't I be getting alot better efficency with it? What could I do to change this?
Thanks!

Lowering your dwell will lead to better efficency but the gun wont shoot as smooth.

yes, i would sacrifice smoothness and quietness, but it just seems that I should be getting more efficency or is that sounding about right?

45/45 tanks are small so that probably isnt too far off. If the hydo is almost out i would definitely recomend getting a 68/45.

I personally think it's a low shot count. My 08 would get 6 and a hopper off a 45/4k fill. Is the gun or tank leaking anywhere? Even a tiny leak will kill effeciency. Do you have a barrel to underbore with? Seems to help all my guns by about a half to a pod. Chrono'd in at a reasonable speed? Don't know how long you've had your gun, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to service your regs and change rammer orings. May not help, but you could eliminate that as a potential problem.

Certainly no harm in trying some dwell tuning - you may be able to get the exact same performance as you have now (in terms of operating pressure and LPR pressure), but at a lower dwell setting.

I generally get about 8 Pods on my 45/45 on a 4k fill with my SL8R depending on the paint, the conditions on the field that day and if I can get I may get as few as 6 but never less. I've seen 9 but that was on a fill that we got as close to 4500 as we could and it did start to drop off about the 1/2 mark of the pod.
Check for small leaks in the reg on your tank (I had a problem where I noticed a significant drop and it was due to a leak in my tanks fill nipple that was small enough I couldn't hear, but it was significant enough to impact the efficiency.

Yea, I'll have to check for some small air leaks, it just seems I should be getting more shots with it.

Paint to bore match= least efficient, I can link you to the charts if I can find them, but over boring is the next best efficient and under boring leads to the best efficiency, I tried this a couple months back after looking at the data on the charts and it seems to be 100% correct.

Most interesting. Been wondering about this for some time. I would like to take a look at those charts.

Turn down to your dwell to increase efficiency. Also I would install the LP valve into the gun. I have one in my 08 and it makes it shoot a lot smoother. Turn you LPR in one turn or so and decrease your dwell about 2 or 3 and that should help. Also check and make sure your gun isnt leaking anywhere.
