If you can't get a freak for cheap or anything, I'd go for any regular barrel and get it bored for $20. Works the same.

Costs about the same in the long run, too.

With the way barrels seem to be going freak inserts are being used in a LOT of barrels now, and i wouldn't give it too long before another company finds a way to release similar inserts (scratch that, smart parts loves to sue... I'm sure they'd find a way to do it from the grave) anyhow, like tons of people have said get a barrel milled for freak inserts... or just get a freak, after all it is a backup, the little bit of extra weight isn't gonna be a huge deal is it? and if youre just using it in the woods i don't think you're gonna care too much.

anyhow, freaks in the BST section aren't normally too expensive, maybe 20 for the back and 10 ish for a SP tip of any sorts.

That's just my 2 cents, i havent seen anybody who said that yet but if someone did sorry for the re-post

There aren't a lot of easy to find sub-.679 bore options for the Freak. The ones that are cost $30 each.

Pick up a small bore dye UL from the marketplace and put some fingernail polish on the inside so you do not get roll outs. You should be able to pick one up fairly cheap

Not a big fan of Smart Parts, but their Freak system is pretty hard to beat. I went with the empire system, works great. If you wanted my opinion, get a cp one piece in a smaller bore.

I'm loving my Lurker for most all paints up to about .685 or so as long as you don't double pump. It does clean itself out after a ball or 2 though.
Next is a SP Freak kit.

The problem with a Deadly Wind Fibur barrel or any other barrel that takes freak inserts is that it is getting harder and harder to find Freak Insert Kits. You can find them, but took me about 2 weeks to get a full kit.

Well, I'd buy brass inserts from MCB and Palmers anyway, not aluminum or stainless steel. In fact, I have, though I don't own any other Freak parts of any kind.

my vote is for the cp classic one piece. the smallest bore is 685 i believe which ist the best but thats acceptible if its just a back up barrel plus you can get it in 12, 14, 16 inch and it cost like $30 brand new.

You might as well be using a stock barrel with tape at that point.

Palmers will actually widget the insert as well(On request). And for those of you who have not yet shot an insert with widgets it can make quite a difference.

CCI Phantom barrel with RTR barrel adapter with dimples. You can even bore it out for freak inserts down the road if you want.

Nevermind that wedgiting an insert makes no sense at all.

I too was skeptical, however its not meant for holding the ball in place (like a detent) it's used to change the trajectory. Apparently by eliminating the actuall spin on the ball, It allows the ball minimal movement when passed through the barrel, causing the ball to fly very flat. with little arc or drop off. Many of the Pump players here that I play with swear by it, I myself do not have one, but I have shot widgeted .684 and compared it to my own .684 W/out (using the same gun) and did see a comparable difference.
